Mrs. Golda Nell (Garmon) Sewell, 95, passed away July 17, 2025 in Nashville, Tennessee. She was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky, on November 12, 1929 to James R. and Bernice (Pennycuff) Garmon.

Golda was a career civil servant, working for Selective Service and for the US Postal Service, from which she retired. Following high school, Golda graduated from Bowling Green Business University, which later merged into what is now Western Kentucky University. She began her career as a bookkeeper in Burkesville, KY, before her marriage and subsequent moves to Texas, New Jersey, Germany, West Virginia, and ultimately back to Kentucky. She lived in Richmond Kentucky just prior to the move to the historic Sewell home in Waterview.

Golda was devoted to her three daughters and took great pleasure in hosting their friends for slumber parties in Waterview on a regular basis. Everyone looked forward to her hospitality and special baked treats. Above all, she was known for her famous German icebox brownies. She considered the friends of her daughters as extended family, and these friends commonly referred to her as their second mother. Golda was an adventurous traveler who sought to see the world and experience foreign culture and history. She loved visiting numerous European countries while living in Germany for three years in the 1960's. She later traveled to China, Japan and Egypt. She is known for her love of spicy Asian food and for impressive sprinkles of red pepper flakes on pizza. True to her brave spirit and open mind, Golda left her beloved Waterview home and community in 2017 to be near family in Nashville, TN. Until her passing, she lived at the Saint Paul Retirement Community, where she was a highly sought bridge partner. She made wonderful friends at the Saint Paul, where she was loved and admired.

In addition to her parents, Golda was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Sewell Hamilton, siblings, Anna Ruth Alexander, McIva Doebler & James R. "Jimmy" Garmon, Jr. & husband, Gene Brown Sewell

She is survived by daughters, Katharin Sewell Dyer (Barry Dyer) of Nashville and Cindy Sewell Weisskopf (Dr. Peter Weisskopf) of Phoenix, Arizona, and by her three granddaughters: Emily Dyer Gulick (Joshua Gulick), Julia Dyer, and Alexandra Weisskopf. Great-grandson: James Gulick.

A private Committal service was conducted on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at the Marrowbone Cemetery with Bro. Bill Garmon officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to The Marrowbone Methodist Church Cheryl Hamilton Memorial Garden Fund.
