Jim was born on December 12, 1930 to Asa and Maude (Adams) Sewell in the Riverland Community just inside the Texas side of the Red River, the youngest of one brother and five sisters. He went to school in Ringgold, Texas but graduated from Henrietta High School in 1948. He married Doris June Tanner on April 7, 1951. She was 16 and he was 20 years old. He farmed to start with but held various jobs, "Flunky" for a mechanic at a gas station in Ringgold while they lived in a one room house. Jim went to work at Moore's Hardware after moving to Henrietta. At this time he had 2 girls and a boy and wife to support. There he laid flooring and was a washing machine repair man. Then he went to work for JAC Electric as a lineman until his retirement in 1992. Doris passed away on April 25, 2005. He loved his family very much. He remarried in 2010 to Agnes Matthews at the age of 79. They had 15 wonderful years after combining both families. They called each other's kids their bonus kids and the kids called them their bonus mom and dad. Jim was a good provider and a good friend. He would do anything to help a friend or neighbor. Most of his friendships lasted a lifetime. After retirement he ran a few cows and farmed. That was his favorite thing to do and was really good at it except for hitting the only tree in the pasture, according to his son Chuck Sewell.
