James Allen (Jim) Sewell, 94, of Bowie, Texas passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 4, 2025 in the Davis Owens & Brumley Funeral Home Chapel in Henrietta, Texas with Pastor Luke Morrison, with the Western Trail Cowboy Church in Lockett, Texas, officiating. Visitation will be 1-2 pm just prior to service time.

Jim was born on December 12, 1930 to Asa and Maude (Adams) Sewell in the Riverland Community just inside the Texas side of the Red River, the youngest of one brother and five sisters. He went to school in Ringgold, Texas but graduated from Henrietta High School in 1948. He married Doris June Tanner on April 7, 1951. She was 16 and he was 20 years old. He farmed to start with but held various jobs, "Flunky" for a mechanic at a gas station in Ringgold while they lived in a one room house. Jim went to work at Moore's Hardware after moving to Henrietta. At this time he had 2 girls and a boy and wife to support. There he laid flooring and was a washing machine repair man. Then he went to work for JAC Electric as a lineman until his retirement in 1992. Doris passed away on April 25, 2005. He loved his family very much. He remarried in 2010 to Agnes Matthews at the age of 79. They had 15 wonderful years after combining both families. They called each other's kids their bonus kids and the kids called them their bonus mom and dad. Jim was a good provider and a good friend. He would do anything to help a friend or neighbor. Most of his friendships lasted a lifetime. After retirement he ran a few cows and farmed. That was his favorite thing to do and was really good at it except for hitting the only tree in the pasture, according to his son Chuck Sewell.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris Sewell, son Chuck Sewell, three grandsons, Kelly Humphrey, Curtis Burris and Colt Lovell, five sisters and one brother, son in law Mack Daniel.

Survivors include his wife Agnes Matthews Sewell of Bowie; daughters, Sandy Burris of Byers, Susie Daniel and Edward Crosby of Vernon; step-son, Chris Matthews and wife Marchuetta; step daughter, Ramonna Polk and husband Randy; granddaughters, Shelly Lovell and husband Jimmy of Vernon, Shayne Henry and husband Chris of Waggoner Ranch, Courtney Long of Byers, Lindsay Sewell and Jason of Wichita Falls; bonus grandkids, Bailey Polk, Jordan Stubblefield and husband Eric, Jody Matthews and wife Kaylee; great grandkids, Jacee Copley and husband John, Creed Henry and fiancé Jolee, Hadley Henry, Harley Davidson, Bailey Long, Blaine Chandler and wife Emily, Aiden Ayers-Sewell and Mason Ayers-Sewell, Jaxon and Tucker Stubblefield, Easton and Conner Matthews ; great great grandkids, Colter and Charlee Jo Copley, Jude Chandler, Austin Bujak.
