Gordon “Wayne” Easterly, 71, of Mooreland, passed away Friday, August 8, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on August 18, 1953, in Muncie, to the late Harold and Hessie (Millsap) Easterly.

Wayne’s journey began in Daleville, where he graduated from Daleville High School in 1971. He immediately started working at Borg Warner in Muncie. His professional path also led him to the Chrysler Corporation in New Castle and Philco Ford in Connersville, before returning to Borg Warner, from where he retired in 1986. His time in the workforce showcased not only his strong work ethic but also his adaptability and determination to succeed. Soon after retiring, Wayne’s father fell ill and needed full-time care and despite their differences, Wayne took care of Harold and made sure he had everything he needed. Education was always important to Wayne, and in his 40s, he sought to broaden his horizons by attending Ivy Tech Community College, where he earned an associate's degree in construction.

Those who knew Wayne appreciated his genuine nature and his unwavering kindness. He had a unique ability to speak his mind, making him both honest and approachable. Described as sometimes abrasive but undeniably one of the nicest people you would ever meet, Wayne was a reliable and generous friend, a faithful father and son, and always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a warm smile.

Wayne’s hobbies and collections were as broad as his mind. A talented musician, he played the trumpet and was an accomplished wrestler during his high school years. With an adventurous spirit, he found joy in the great outdoors—whether it was hunting, immersed in nature or indulging his curiosity as an amateur archaeologist. Wayne loved to roam newly tilled fields, searching for arrowheads and other artifacts, connecting deeply with Native American culture and history.

His active lifestyle was complemented by a passion for bicycling and running marathons, which kept him fit and energized. Wayne’s love for animals and the natural world was evident, and he often found peace among the trees and trails he cherished.

Those left to cherish his memory include his grandson, Ethan Easterly (Marilyn); granddaughter, Abbie Easterly; brother, Phil Easterly; good friend, Marna Krause; nieces, Carla Anthony and Mendy Easterly; father figure to Nolan Stanley; many longtime friends; and son, Greg Easterly.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Hessie Easterly; his ex-wife, Mary Easterly; and his dog buddy, Rosco.

The family would like to say a special thanks to Heather, Barb, and Gina from Southern Care Hospice for their care and concern for Wayne.
