Gordon G. Eyre, age 87, peacefully passed away on January 1, 2025, at his home in Beaver, Utah, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on September 20, 1937, in Minersville, Utah, to Thurman Frank and Irma Gillins Eyre. He grew up in Minersville, went to Minersville Grade School, and later took the bus to Beaver High School. He was always the first one to get on the bus because that is where the heater was. Gordon played football for three years and was chosen as AllState Class B, and he excelled in basketball making Second Team Class B AllState. After high school, sports were always an important part of his life.
Gordon married Ann Patterson on April 25, 1956, in Beaver, Utah. Together they had two children: Nick G. and Pamela who grew up in Las Vegas where Gordon coached the Church Baseball team that Nick played on, and they were Five-Time Champions.
Gordon loved working for the Union Pacific Railroad and took great pride in serving as a brakeman and as a yard switchman for almost 40 years. He retired to Beaver, Utah, and built a beautiful home for his wife and daughter who enjoyed many summer nights on the back patio admiring the beautiful mountains and deer that would gather in his backyard. Gordon and Pam became caregivers for Ann who suffered from Alzheimers for six years. Gordon and Pam lovingly took care of Ann, even after Gordon was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had to have 33 radiation treatments. Naomi White came weekly to fix Ann's hair, and on July 22, 2009, just after Naomi finished adjusting Ann's curls, Naomi gave Ann a farewell kiss on the cheek, and Ann silently passed away.
Gordon loved to hunt. He and his family looked forward to coming to Minersville every year to hunt deer with his brothers, friends, and extended family. One of his favorite hunting buddies was his Uncle Heber Gillins. Gordon's most enjoyable times were watching his son Nick play football for BYU and the Houston Oilers and the Chicago Blitz. Gordon and Ann loved collecting crystalware and watching it turn purple under a UV light.
Gordon was a single man for two years until he began dating Sherrie Thompson, which led to their marriage on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2011. They were married by Bishop Larry Barnes who said he had never married two old geezers like these two before. Sherrie moved to Beaver where she and Gordon were active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Gordon and Sherrie were Home Teachers and Greeters for the Beaver 4th Ward. Gordon was ordained an Elder by their favorite Bishop Larry Barnes. Gordon took out his endowment in the Cedar City Temple on September 14, 2019. Gordon's only son Nick suddenly passed away from a massive heart attack on November 15, 2018. Gordon was sealed to his late wife Ann, their son Nick, and daughter Pam in the Cedar City Temple on January 14, 2020.
Gordon is survived by his wife Sherrie, daughter Pam, daughter-in-law Diane Eyre, grandson Conner (Lexxus) Eyre, great granddaughter Astrid Eyre, brother Gayle (Sheila) Eyre, brother-in-law Dave Gale, sister-in-law Diane K. Eyre, and several nieces and nephews. He was welcomed home by his wife Ann, his son Nick, his parents Thurman and Irma, two brothers Dale and Calvin, and one sister Madalyn.
