Walt Whitman
Gordy passed away peacefully on Monday, surrounded by love and memories of a life deeply rooted in family, nature, and quiet devotion.
Gordy found his greatest joy outdoors. Whether fishing, boating, cutting grass, working in the yard, or simply sitting in the garage with chickens gathered around him, he was most at peace when he was close to nature. His love for the outdoors was not just a pastime-it was a way of life that he shared generously with others.
Gordy was a loving and supportive presence to his family. He was deeply proud of his daughter, Tania, and one of her most cherished memories is the moment he gave her away on her wedding day. As they walked down the aisle, Gordy turned to her stepfather, Doug, and said, "It's an honor to give her away with you." It was a moment that captured his grace, humility, and deep love for his family. Tania remembers him fondly for his drawn-out "byyee," and carries his love with her always.
To his nephew Jason, Gordy was a steady and influential presence throughout childhood and adulthood. Jason treasures the summers they spent together rafting the American River, water skiing on Lake Oroville, and camping in Yosemite. Those experiences sparked a lifelong love for nature, national parks, and photography-passions that continue to shape Jason's life today. Gordy's guidance and example helped Jason make courageous life decisions rooted in joy, purpose, and appreciation for the world around him. Jason holds close a final meaningful promise made between them-one he intends to keep for the rest of his life-believing they will meet again someday.
Gordy was also a beloved brother. His sister Victoria remembers him as her "big brother" and lifelong constant. Through childhood marked by hardship, separation, and frequent moves-from the frozen Midwest to the deserts of California and Arizona, to mountains and Pacific beaches-they formed an unbreakable bond. Though they had little material possessions, they were rich in shared experiences, resilience, and the knowledge that they could survive anything together. Those memories remain among her greatest treasures.
For almost 20 years, Gordy was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Monica. He never missed a Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, or birthday, and he took special care in choosing cards that perfectly expressed his love-small but meaningful gestures that spoke volumes about his thoughtfulness and devotion.
Gordy will be remembered for his generosity, his quiet strength, his love of nature, and the deep, lasting impact he made on those fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the memories, values, and love he shared so freely.
In keeping with his wishes, no funeral service will be held.
