Gordon Julian Herron, a dedicated mechanic and a proud family man, passed away on July 19, 2025, at the age of 72. He was surrounded by his loving family at his home in Kiln, Mississippi, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and devotion.
Born on January 31, 1953, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Gordon made a significant impact throughout his life, both personally and professionally. As a mechanic, he owned J and J Mechanic and also worked for others in the industry, showcasing his expertise and passion for anything automotive. His skills were not limited to mechanics; Gordon was also a shrimping enthusiast and enjoyed many challenges that life threw at him. He was known for his resourcefulness and was described as a man who could tackle any task he set his mind to.
Gordon's love for motorcycling and racing cars on dirt tracks highlighted his adventurous spirit. He took immense pride in his family, cherishing every moment spent with them and ensuring that each generation knew the value of hard work and perseverance.
He is survived by his beloved wife of seven years, Peggy Herron. Gordon was a devoted father to Gordon J. Herron III (Jennifer), Stacy L. Herron (Brandy), John M. Herron (Kristi), Michelle M. Ladner, Timothy A. Herron (Maegan), Cory J. Herron (Kelsey), Olivia A. Malley (Dustin), Kayla M. Martinez (Pablo), Chloe L. Herron, and Destiny M. Taylor (Donavon). Additionally, he is remembered as a caring stepfather to Jimmy Melton (Jamie), Cynthia Henley (Sammy), and Woodrow Melton, along with Misty Melton. Gordon leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart as well as his sister, Cindy.
Gordon is preceded in death by his first wife, June Herron; his daughter, Tracy Lynn Herron; son-in-law, Thalus Ladner; grandchild, Jenny Lynn Herron; his parents, Gordon Herron and Evelyn Herron Rodriguez; and his brother, Roy B. Herron. Their memories live on through the love and legacy he imparted to his family.
Visitation services will be held at Riemann Family Funeral Home in Pass Christian on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM and again on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Annunciation Church (Chapel) in Kiln from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, followed by a Mass at the same location from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The burial service will take place at St. Joseph at Rotten Bayou in Diamondhead on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 1:30 PM.
Gordon Julian Herron leaves behind a rich legacy of love, skill, and dedication to family, which will inspire those who knew him for generations to come. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
