Gordon Kistler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc. - Leesport on Dec. 22, 2025.
In the evening of December 17th, 2025, Gordon Ray Kistler was called home by His Lord, where he was reunited with his wife Jane and their only child, Thad. He is survived by his grandchildren, Brock and Savannah Kistler, in addition to his daughter-in-law, Christina Kistler.

Born on August 12, 1940 in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, he was the youngest of 3 by Gordon Jodocus and Myrtle Kistler. He was proceeded in death by his sister Mearl Hartung and brother Ernest Kistler. He is additionally survived by many nieces and nephews from his siblings, and his wife's side of the family. Graduating from Tamaqua High School in 1959, Gordon can be found in the Sports Hall of Fame from his basketball career. Following high school, he joined the Marine Corps in 1960, serving until 1964 with multiple roles in the education of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense to deploying military individuals.

Marrying on April 5th, 1969, just 14 months after their first date, Mary Jane and Gordon loved camping and traveling together in tents and their pop-up throughout their 38 years of marriage. When they were blessed with Thad, they continued to go camping and adventuring as a family whenever and wherever they could. As Thad got older, Gordy became active in Schuylkill Valley youth sports, coaching little league baseball for 8 years. Throughout his time in Mohrsville, Gordon was a long time member of the Lutheran Church of The Holy Trinity, serving on their Pastoral Care Team for a plethora of years.

In addition to his spiritual work, Gordy put in over 35 loyal years to Carpenter Technology, retiring in 2000. After retirement, he enjoyed frequent breakfast outings with his son Thad, where they would discuss the latest sports news, local antique finds, or solutions to the world's problems. He was also a member to the American Legion for over 50 years and a faithful Baltimore Ravens fan. In his final years, Gordy enjoyed sharing family history and teaching his grandchildren the art of currency, cast iron banks, and antique collecting. Gordon was extreme witty, unironically hilarious, and a man of strong integrity.
