Gordon Propson Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sippel Funeral Home - New Holstein on Jan. 27, 2023.
Gordon F. Propson, 90, of New Holstein passed away Wednesday January 25, 2023, after a few days of "old age catching up to him".
He was born September 27, 1932, to Joseph and Appolonia (Joas) Propson of Kloten. Gordon graduated from Chilton High School in 1949. On February 7, 1968, he married June VanderPutten at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Gordon grew up on a farm in Kloten but had spent his working years in manufacturing in Chilton and New Holstein and "retired" 35 years ago.
Gordon was truly a unique and talented person. He was a very good polka dancer and was always sought after as a dance partner at the many weddings over the years. He preferred listening to the radio especially with polka music over watching tv. He was skillful at playing cards, especially at Sheepshead and Scat. When he was 12, he entered a Scat tournament in Milwaukee, winning as the youngest player amongst adults and as Dad said, "I whooped their butt". He was well known for his homemade horseradish. He enjoyed telling jokes, old sayings, one-liners & stories about his youth and life with an incredible memory for details. Gordon, in his early years, enjoyed sturgeon spearing when tags were a nickel; he proudly speared an 86 pounder. He could be brutally honest and very charming, especially when he had an audience and could talk your ear off. He could play pool with the best of them into his eighties usually for $2 a game. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be missed very much.
Survivors include his wife June, children Ann (Derek) Hanamann (New Holstein); Nancy Puetz (Weston) and fiancé, Mike Molski, Jeff Propson (Neenah); grandchildren Brad Schisel (Kiel), John Schisel (Kiel) and fiancée, Sarah Mueller; and two sisters-in-law, Rose Propson and Katie VanderPutten. He is further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Ester Heiner, Marie Perl, & Stella Gerner; brothers Clarence & Norbert; as well as brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and two nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Ave, New Holstein. Gordon will be cremated per his wishes.
