His Legacy Gordon Ralph Vertin, 86, passed away August 30, 2024. He was born on October 23, 1937, in Highland Park, Michigan to Ralph Vertin and Bernadine (Schlum) Vertin. Gordon married Renee Ryoti, on October 26, 1957, in Marquette, Michigan. Gordon lived an adventurous life, he was a skydiver, jump master, scuba diver, and an airline pilot. He owned his own Cessna and on one particular sky diving trip that he was piloting, the engine caught fire and he had to make an emergency landing on U.S.-23. Gordon was incredibly patriotic, he loved his country, supported the troops and was a World War II history buff. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and sailing on his sailboat. Gordon had a very generous heart and did mission work in Detroit, and also took a mission trip to Russia. He and his wife Renee had the gift of hospitality and would open their home to anyone. He loved dogs and never met a dog that didn't love him. Gordon loved children and was called a baby whisperer for his ability to calm a crying baby. He loved his family and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gordon will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
His Family Gordon will be missed by his children, Eric Vertin, Scott (Bonnie) Vertin, Amy (Mark) Sochacki, Jeff (Karen) Vertin, Cary (Michael) Kalowick; siblings, Donald (Nancy) Vertin, Suzanne Pollard, Diane O'Donell, Karen (Steve) Hume, Patricia Hamme; grandchildren, Shawn, Marc (Camilla), John (Angel), Gordon, Randall (Lindsey), Chelsea, Michelle (Matt Meiring), Jacob (Sarah), Abigail (Teddy Roberts), Valerie (Joseph Gessler), Nathan, Nicole, Nate, Suzy; great grandchildren, Mila, Isla, Eden, Sophie, Juniper, Gabrielle, Aubree, Troy, Estelle, Tristan, Celine, Miles, Penelope; numerous nieces and nephews and his two feral cats, Charlie and Boyka. He is preceded in death by his wife, Renee Vertin; parents, Ralph and Bernadine Vertin; sisters, JoAnn Smith, Grace Speen; and brother in law, Jeffrey Pollard.
