Grace C. (Gohn) Avara, 60, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, at Center for Hospice Care Esther's House with family by her side.
Grace was born on Jan. 15, 1965, in South Bend, Indiana, to Terry and Madaline (Reinholtz) Gohn. On Oct. 21, 2005, in Cassopolis, Michigan, Grace reunited in marriage to the late William "Bill" Avara.
Grace is survived by her son, Andrew (Alicia) Avara of South Bend, Indiana; her siblings Deborah Peavey (Larry Gerdich) of South Bend, Indiana, Marvin (Bobbie) Gohn of Elkhart, Indiana, and Roberta Coleman of Walkerton, Indiana; her granddaughter Emerson Avara; and many nieces and nephews, and lifetime friends. Grace was preceded in death by her father, Terry Gohn.
Grace was a 1983 graduate of Penn High School. Grace retired in 2024 and enjoyed spending it camping with family and friends. She loved puzzle books, jigsaw puzzles, fishing, cookouts, panda bears and watching Notre Dame football. She enjoyed attending her granddaughter's softball games and orchestra concerts.
No service will be held at this time. Memorial contributions may be made in Grace's name to the family or any of the following organizations: Center for Hospice Care, American Liver Foundation, The Baruch S. Blumberg Institute, American Cancer Society.
