Mrs. Grace Hauser Bellamy, age 96, of Dahlonega passed away on July 26, 2024 following declining health. Mrs. Bellamy will be remembered as being a true pillar to her family, church and community. She was compassionate, known for her many talents and always had a smile. She was truly a beacon of love, hope, and devotion.
Grace was born in Sarasota, Florida to her parents George and Susan (Chase) Hauser. She grew up in Venice, Florida and spent her teenage years helping her father at his lumber business. Her bold nature was exhibited even then as she would drive the lumber truck to school and afterwards help to unload lumber from rail cars. Grace would later go on to marry the love of her life William Bellamy, whom she was married to for 60 1/2 years. They together would raise a family and create a life filled with immense happiness and accomplishments.
Mrs. Bellamy spent her career as a media specialist for Lumpkin County School System retiring in 1990 after 20 years of devoted service. She was awarded the State Middle School Media Specialist of the Year Award in 1988. In retirement, she was a member of the Lumpkin County Retired Educators and served as president from 1999-2000. She co-authored a book titled "Lumpkin County, Georgia Schools of Yesteryear: An Historical Overview of the Rural One-Room Schools 1840's-1957". The proceeds go to scholarships for students pursuing education.
Mrs. Bellamy served as a charter member of the restoration of the Holly Theater and was on the board of the Chestatee Regional Library for ten years, serving two years as chair during the construction of the former Lumpkin County Library. Mrs. Bellamy held the title of Honorary Gold Rush Queen.
Her love of God and faith would lead her to being a member of Dahlonega Baptist Church since 1964 until her passing. She was the third oldest member of the church. She energetically served as church librarian for 20 years, a Sunday School teacher, serving on pulpit committees, Women's Missionary Union leadership, and serving on the Afghan Ministry. She created many afghans with love and gave to people in the community. Mrs. Bellamy's proudest accomplishments were not her career nor her community or religious involvement, but her unfaltering love and devotion to her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two sisters, Dorothy Graham and Betty Arnall. She is survived by her children Cheri Jones (Howard), Suzanne Anderson (Dudley), Marie Sumerel (Steve) and Paul
Bellamy; grandchildren Jeffrey Anderson (Jennifer), Todd Anderson (Wendy), Dawn Morrell (Jon), Ashley Goedeke (Scott), and John Luke Sumerel. Great grandchildren; Kaylyn Addison, Caleb Anderson, Reese Goedeke, and Mila Goedeke. Other neighbors and friends who were considered family also survive. Mrs. Bellamy will be deeply missed, and her legacy will continue to bless and stand testament to a life filled with love and grace that will forever impact and be etched in our hearts. A Memorial Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday August 3rd at Dahlonega Baptist Church at 2:00 PM followed by a time of reception and refreshments in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Dahlonega Baptist Church Benevolence Fund or to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Georgia at P. O.
