GRACE COOMBS

GRACE KENNEDY COOMBS Grace Kennedy Coombs, 96, died Friday, May 3, 2024, at Friendly Home in Rochester, N.Y., after a prolonged illness. She was born on June 19, 1927, in Pulteney, N.Y., the daughter of the late Joe and Ellen Kennedy and graduated from Franklin Academy and Prattsburgh Central School and completed a course of study at Rochester Business Institute. Grace was married to Alan (Al) Coombs on October 4, 1947, at Pulteney Presbyterian Church and resided in Prattsburgh, N.Y. She was secretary of Prattsburgh Central School and treasurer of the Board of Education, co-owner and operator of Coombs Service, Inc. (an Agway store) with her husband, Al, and worked at Steuben County Social Services and Steuben County Infirmary. Grace and Al loved dancing, belonging at one time to three ballroom dance clubs, one of which they helped start. They traveled to Europe and Africa and, with their pickup camper, all over the Eastern Seaboard. Over the years, Grace was an active member of Prattsburgh Grange, Prattsburgh United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Prattsburgh Senior Citizens. She was a dedicated homemaker and loved to bake, a talent she has passed along to her great-grandchildren. She was the go-to person for cakes and giant chocolate cookies. Grace is predeceased by her husband, Al, two sons Gary and James Coombs, siblings Thelma, Phyllis, Laurence and Joe. She is survived by siblings: Josephine Thompson of Potter, N.Y., and David Kennedy (Ruth) of Pulteney, son: Robert Coombs (Teresa) of Penfield, N.Y., five grandchildren: Grace Coombs Bassallo (Renato) of Lancaster, Pa., Maria Elena Coombs Ricciardi (Mark) of Wellington, Fla., Pilar Coombs of Orlando, Fla., Martin Coombs (Jennifer) of Grand Island, N.Y., and Ana (Coombs) Brightful (Jason) of Brighton, N.Y., 11 great-grandchildren and two-great-great grandsons, as well asnumerous nieces and nephews and their families. Calling hours will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Prattsburgh Presbyterian Church, 1 Church St., Prattsburgh, with the funeral service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
