Grace Jones

Grace Jones, 85, of Newark, New Jersey, peacefully departed this life on May 2, 2025. Born on October 31, 1939, in Petersburg, Virginia, Grace brought warmth, strength, and love to everyone blessed to know her.
She met the love of her life, Nicholas Ortiz, and together they shared ten beautiful years of marriage before his passing on December 31, 2023. Their bond was one of deep affection, partnership, and enduring joy.
Grace was a devoted mother to her surviving children-Kim Jones, Kenneth Coleman, Tyrone Jones, and Keith Jones-and a loving mother to her late son, Kevin Jones. She was a proud grandmother to Tawaheedah Morris, Zahkee Jones, Brooke Jones, Wensday Jones, Natasha Derrick, Aljauw Derrick, Dawaul Derrick, Hassan Pearson, Hassana Allen, Chanel Fretwell, Kaii Coleman, Jaylan Tutt, Kareem Taylor, Keason Taylor, Atiffa Horton, and Hakeem Taylor. She also leaves behind 29 cherished great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Lil Kevin Jones.
Grace is survived by her dear sister, Martha Carr, and was predeceased by her siblings Rose Jones, Addie Jones, Genie Jones, Herman Jones, and Horace Jones. She also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever hold her in their hearts.
A dedicated caregiver, Grace worked many years as a home health nurse, providing comfort and care to those in need. She had a heart for service and a deep love for her family. Known for her delicious cooking, Grace found true joy in preparing meals for loved ones and gathering everyone around her table. She also enjoyed trips to the casino and the simple pleasure of being surrounded by family and friends.
Grace Jones was a pillar of strength, compassion, and love. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
