Evans, Georgia – Grace Usry Stephenson, age 88, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, surrounded by her beloved children.
Grace was the heart and soul of her family—lovingly known as the CEO of the entire Stephenson family. She led with wisdom, humor, and unwavering devotion, creating a home and legacy built on love and togetherness.
She is preceded in death by her faithful and loving husband, Tom Stephenson, with whom she shared over 50 wonderful years of marriage. Their bond was a true example of lifelong partnership and devotion.
Grace is survived by her daughter, Brenda Tanner (Britt); her son, Tommy Stephenson (Vicki); and her sister, Martha Phelps, (Claude). She was a proud grandmother to Carolyn Tanner(Joe), Thomas Stephenson(Brooke), Blake Stephenson(Maycie), Lilli Stephenson, Carson Stephenson, Keelan Stallings(Whitney), and Ashton Stallings(Preston). Her great-grandchildren—Ellie Stephenson, Madison Stallings, Olivia Stallings, and Monroe Hart—were a constant source of joy in her later years by their sweet and fun drop in visits.
An avid gardener, Grace’s green thumb brought beauty to every home she lived in and touched. She cherished playing bridge with her group of close friends and expressed her creativity through painting and sewing, talents she taught herself from an early age. As she grew older and was no longer able to drive herself to church, she found comfort in reading her Bible and watching Charles Stanley on Sunday mornings—an expression of her enduring faith.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Madison Heights, who lovingly cared for Grace during the last 10 months of her life. Special gratitude is also given to Helping Hands Hospice for their gentle presence and compassionate support in her final days.
A special thanks is extended to her neighbor and friend, Charlie Ennis, who graciously filled the gap while she was living alone—bringing her warm meals, as well as her mail and newspaper to her doorstep with kindness and consistency. His generosity and friendship meant so much to Grace and her family.
Grace lived a life of quiet strength, creativity, and deep love. Her presence will be deeply missed, and her memory treasured by all who knew her.
