Graciela Herburt-Hewell

Graciela passed away peacefully in her home on December 12, 2025, following her battle with cancer. Born on March 29, 1944, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Luis Maria Brea and Elina Elsa Botto, Graciela was one of five siblings-Luis, Pablo, Diego, and Marily-who shared a close and loving bond throughout their lives.

From an early age, Graciela embraced life with energy and joy. She loved singing, dancing, and staying active, but above all, she cherished time spent with family and friends. Her adventurous spirit and passion for new experiences led her to the United States, where she studied English at Georgetown University. Captivated by the vibrancy of Washington, D.C., she made the courageous decision to leave her family in Argentina and accept a position as executive assistant to the Ambassador of Argentina.

While in Washington, D.C., Graciela met the love of her life, Janusz. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared decades of love, laughter, and devotion.

For more than thirty years, Graciela served her country with grace and dedication, providing continuity and support to numerous ambassadors. Her work encompassed policy, protocol, state dinners, and the administration of the embassy-always carried out with professionalism and warmth. She retired in 2009, leaving behind a legacy of service and integrity.

After retirement, Graciela and Janusz began a new chapter in The Villages, Florida, where she found a deep sense of community among wonderful neighbors and friends. Her life there was filled with joy, companionship, and faith.

Graciela's greatest passions were her family and the Catholic church. She was a devoted mother and a loving wife, selflessly supporting her husband through his entrepreneurial pursuits and later through his illness until his passing in 2023. Her strength and resilience were rooted in her unwavering faith, which guided her throughout life's elations and challenges.

She will be remembered as a kind soul, a selfless supporter, and an uplifting presence to all who knew her. Graciela is survived by her three children-Allegra, Carolina, and Jan-and her five beloved grandchildren: Alina, Augie, Grace, Roman, and Anika.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church on Thursday, December 18th, 2025, at 10:00am.

Graciela falleció pacíficamente en su hogar el 12 de diciembre de 2025, tras una valiente lucha contra el cáncer. Nació el 29 de marzo de 1944 en Buenos Aires, Argentina, hija de Luis María Brea y Elina Elsa Botto. Fue una de cinco hermanos -Luis, Pablo, Diego y Marily- con quienes mantuvo a lo largo de su vida un vínculo profundo, cercano y lleno de amor.

Desde muy joven, Graciela abrazó la vida con entusiasmo y alegría. Disfrutaba cantar, bailar y mantenerse activa, pero mas que todo valoraba el tiempo compartido con su familia y amigos. Su espíritu aventurero y su curiosidad por el mundo la llevaron a emigrar a Estados Unidos, donde estudió inglés en la Universidad de Georgetown. Enamorada de la energía y vitalidad de Washington, D.C., tomó la valiente decisión de dejar su Argentina natal y aceptar un puesto como asistente ejecutiva del Embajador de la República Argentina.

Fue en Washington, D.C. donde Graciela conoció al amor de su vida, Janusz. Juntos construyeron una hermosa familia y compartieron décadas de amor, risas y profunda devoción. Durante más de treinta años, Graciela sirvió a su país con profesionalismo, calidez y una elegancia natural, brindando continuidad y apoyo a numerosos embajadores. Su labor abarcó áreas de política, protocolo, organización de cenas de Estado y administración general de la embajada. Se retiró en 2009, dejando un legado de servicio, compromiso e integridad.

Tras su jubilación, Graciela y Janusz iniciaron una nueva etapa en The Villages, Florida, donde ella encontró un fuerte sentido de comunidad y cultivó entrañables amistades. Su vida allí estuvo colmada de compañía, serenidad, alegría y fe.

Las grandes pasiones de Graciela fueron su familia y la Iglesia Católica. Fue una madre dedicada, una esposa amorosa y un pilar incondicional para su familia. Acompañó con generosidad y entrega a su esposo en sus proyectos empresariales y, más adelante, durante su enfermedad, hasta su fallecimiento en 2023. Su fortaleza y resiliencia tuvieron siempre como raíz una fe profunda e inquebrantable, que la sostuvo tanto en las alegrías como en los desafíos de la vida.

Graciela será recordada como un alma bondadosa, una mujer generosa y una presencia luminosa que elevaba a quienes la rodeaban. Le sobreviven sus tres hijos -Allegra, Carolina y Jan- y sus cinco queridos nietos: Alina, Augie, Grace, Roman y Anika.

Su memoria vivirá por siempre en los corazones de su familia, sus amigos y de todos aquellos cuyas vidas tocó con su amor y su ejemplo.
