Grady Melvin “Mel” Camp, 87, of Cumming, GA passed away February 28, 2024 with his loving family by his side. Mel, as he was lovingly known, was born in College Park, GA to the late Grady W. Camp and Emma James Camp. He served in the U.S. Army.
He graduated from Southwest High School in Atlanta and from Georgia State University with the degree of Bachelor of Arts and minor in Psychology in 1963 and Master Degree in English Literature in 1969. He taught English at Georgia State University and also worked as a finance officer for Rich’s Credit Union.
He was an active member of St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church. He enjoyed singing in the army choir, listening to classical music and opera. His favorite past time was reading and taking walks; but most of all he enjoyed traveling with his wife, visiting family and friends in different parts of the world.
Mr. Camp was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, June Camp Tate. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Kury Camp; daughter, Lorena Prater and her husband, Larry Huskins; grandchildren, Nicolas Prater, and Natalie Prater and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and good friends.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, March 1, 2024 at Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Avenue, Cumming, GA 30040.
A funeral mass will be held 12:00 pm Saturday, March 2, 2024, at St. Brendan The Navigator Catholic Church located at 4633 Shiloh Rd, Cumming, GA 30040.
Interment will follow at Resthaven-Alpharetta City Cemetery, 90 Milton Ave, Alpharetta, GA.
