Grady was born on July 27, 1947 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to the late Arline Schmitz and Grady White Sr.
His impact as a teacher spanned many communities and generations. He began his career at Sledge Junior High in Mississippi, later serving in the Clarksdale Municipal School District and Coahoma County School District. His commitment to education continued at Munford High School in Tennessee, and Dyersburg State Community College, where he inspired countless students with his knowledge and enthusiasm.
A lifelong learner himself, Grady was an active member of the Mississippi Archeological Society, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the Yalobusha County Historical Society. His involvement in these organizations reflected his passion for history and dedication to preserving the stories and artifacts of the past.
Grady was an avid collector of Indian pottery and artifacts, with a particular love for hunting and digging in the Mississippi Delta for arrowheads and pottery pieces. His skill as a flint knapper was admired by many, and he generously shared his knowledge and passion for these ancient crafts with others.
An enthusiastic outdoorsman, Grady cherished every opportunity to hunt and fish, finding joy and peace in the woods, fields, and waters of his beloved South. He was happiest when surrounded by nature, whether tracking game, casting a line, or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the landscape.
Grady's adventures extended far beyond Mississippi, as he looked forward each year to travels out west with his family. Santa Fe held a special place in his heart, and he made many cherished friendships during his visits there, always eager to explore new landscapes and cultures.
A generous soul, Grady was a dedicated blood donor, giving selflessly at every opportunity. His commitment to helping others continued until he was no longer able due to illness.
Grady leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, kindness, and service. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former students, and all those who were touched by his remarkable life.
