Greg Cowan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. - Peru on Feb. 24, 2026.
It is with deep sadness the family of Greg R. Cowan announce his passing on Monday February 23, 2026 at the age of 58.

He was born in Malone, December 27, 1967, the son of Alvin and Isabelle (Spoor) Cowan. Greg was a graduate of Northern Adirondack High School and a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force. He dedicated most of his career to federal service, beginning with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services in St. Albans, VT and later with United States Border and Protection.

Greg was a man who could have a conversation about almost anything. He enjoyed everything from travel to fishing, photography to technology, and news to sports. He took joy in wood working, riding his motorcycle, and planning his next cruise adventure. He was easy going, laughed often, and will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Isabelle Spoor of Plattsburg, NY , his two siblings and their spouses, Craig Cowan and his wife Amy of Highgate, VT and JoEllen Martineau and her husband Maurice of Peru, NY; his nephews and nieces Austin, Maurice, Michelle and Savanna Martineau of Plattsburgh NY; and his parents-in-law, Charlie and Linda Witherbee of Keeseville, NY . Greg also leaves behind a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ann (Witherbee) Cowan on July 11, 2023 and his father, Alvin L. Cowan on December 26, 2014.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 4 to 8 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Rd. Peru, NY . The United States Air Force Honor Guard, accompanied by the VFW Post 1619 Firing Party, will provide Military Honors at 5 PM. Burial will be in the Port Douglas Cemetery in the spring.

Donations in Greg's memory can be made to The American Legion, Make-A-Wish of Vermont and Northeast New York, or an animal rescue program of one's choice in honor of his beloved cat, Chatter.

Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, NY 518-643-9055.
