Greg Raymond Hossbach, 71, of Aubrey, TX, passed away at home on Monday, December 30, 2024. He was born in Joliet, IL, to Russell and Lois (Birkholz) Hossbach. He married Barbara Lee Wilson in Las Vegas, NV on December 23, 2005. Greg was known for his quick wit, unshakable resilience, and boundless love for his family.
Greg believed deeply in the importance of "making memories." He was a joyful, spontaneous adventurer who was always ready to pack up and go on a trip at a moment's notice. An avid documentarian, which he honed through his wedding videography side gig, Greg loved capturing life's moments through photos and video, leaving behind a treasure trove of memories for his family to cherish.
Greg was the first in his family to attend college, paying his way through Joliet Junior College and Lewis University by working at Joliet 7-Up Bottling Company and Plainfield SuperValu. He earned multiple degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts with honors in biology, a Master of Science in Education Administration, and a Doctor of Education in Instructional Technology.
Over his remarkable career, Greg made a lasting impact as a teacher, mentor, and leader. He taught at Joliet West High School, where he founded a trap shooting club. While working as a corporate director of training and development for 26 years, Greg was an adjunct professor for Joliet Junior College for 15 years. After retiring as Vice President of Human Resources, Greg's passion for teaching and sharing knowledge couldn't keep him away and he returned to work as an ADHD coach with the Psychoeducational Network and as a tutor and adjunct instructor at Roane State College in Harriman, TN.
Greg was a devoted family man, known for his quick-witted humor and unconditional love. He made every person he spoke to feel important, always listening with intention and offering support without judgment. As a father, he prioritized quality time-whether playing basketball, swimming, wrestling, walking together, or having long talks. He loved making others smile and laugh and embraced life with childlike wonder, celebrating every new experience, every meal, as if it were the best yet.
Despite enduring immense challenges, including a near-death infection in 1995, kidney failure, a transplant, diabetic complications, and amputations, Greg remained steadfastly true to himself. He faced life's obstacles with courage, humor, and an unrelenting zest for life, inspiring everyone who knew him.
Greg is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Hossbach of Aubrey, TX; son, John Greg Hossbach and wife Killeen of Carrollton, TX; and daughter, Lauren A. Dzurella and husband Palmer of Northlake, TX. He was a proud and doting grandfather, lovingly called "Opa," to Aurora Trinity Dzurella, Lillian Russell Dzurella, Kylan John Hossbach, and step-grandchildren Erik Worden and Anneke Bemis.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Lois; brother, Gary Hossbach; and stepson, Peter Henry Worden.
A celebration of Greg's incredible life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Slay Memorial Chapel in Aubrey, TX. In honor of his vibrant spirit, attendees are encouraged to wear Hawaiian-style attire, and leis will be provided.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Greg's memory to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org or by mail to P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
Greg's family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love and support during this time. He will be remembered for his wisdom, kindness, and the joy he brought to everyone he met.

So very sorry to hear of Greg's passing. He was a wonderful friend to my husband and I, we shared lots of laughs and he will truly be missed. I will never forget the hundreds of Words with Friends we played and how he relished beating me more than I ever could win! He was brilliant and encouraging and just an all around great man. Rest easy my friend, we love and miss you. Prayers to Barbie and the family. Love, the Fullers.
