It is with deep respect and remembrance that we honor the life of John Greg Moffat of Winnsboro, born on September 7, 1955 in Grapevine, Texas, who passed away on February 19th, leaving behind a legacy of courage, dedication, and family pride. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Bette Moffat, and brothers Steve Moffat and Wayne Moffat. He is survived by wife, Melinda Moffat of Winnsboro, son-in- law and daughter, Justin and Ashley Evans of McKinney, Tx., son-in-law and daughter, Brandon and Lori Green of Winnsboro, son John Moffat of Crandall, Texas, son-in-law and stepdaughter Yusuf and Hannah Rizvi of Princeton, Texas, and stepson Dylan Abdanan of Boston, Massachusetts. Grandchildren Payton and Parker Green, Caden, Jax, Ashtin, and Emerson Evans, Grayson Moffat, and Aasya and Ibrahim Rizvi.

Greg was one of three siblings who answered the call to serve their community as members of the Dallas Fire Department-a remarkable testament to their family's shared commitment to protecting others. He devoted 39 years of service to the department, exemplifying bravery, integrity, and compassion throughout his career. Upon his retirement, he moved to Winnsboro, where he made his home and enjoyed a quieter pace of life with his wife Melinda.

In addition to his service with the fire department, Greg was a hardworking businessman. He owned and operated A&A Fire Extinguisher for more than 30 years, eventually partnering with his son, John, who now proudly carries on the business and its legacy of service.

In retirement, Greg embraced the simple joys that meant the most to him. He purchased a boat and spent countless happy hours on the water, especially enjoying fishing and tubing with his grandchildren-creating cherished memories that will live on in their hearts.

Greg was known for his warm, down-to-earth nature and his genuine care for others. He had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued, often greeting friends and neighbors with his familiar question, "How's your mom and them?"-a phrase that perfectly reflected his kindness and sense of humor to those around him.

To his grandchildren and many of their friends, he was simply known as "Pops." In fact, that name became so much a part of who he was that some knew him only by that title, a reflection of the love, comfort, and joy he brought into their lives.

Greg also had a deep love for sports, and some of his proudest and happiest moments were spent cheering on his grandchildren. Whether it was at a Lady Raider basketball game, football, soccer, or hockey, he rarely missed a chance to watch them play and support them from the sidelines.

Greg was known as a loving family member, a loyal friend, and a man of quiet strength. His bond with his siblings was especially meaningful, as together they carried on a tradition of service that made a lasting impact on their family. He will be remembered not only for his years in uniform but for the kindness, humility, and dedication he brought to every aspect of his life.

His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the example he set for future generations. Greg lived out this verse, 1 John 3:16: "By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers".
