Gregory Alan Alt - Obituary
Gregory Alan Alt was blessed to live on this Earth for 73 years but was ushered into the presence of his Savior in Heaven on Monday, November 10, 2025. He was born on November 9, 1952 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to Jack and Claudene Alt. Along with his sister, Renee, he spent his early childhood in Holdenville surrounded by numerous extended family members including two sets of grandparents and several aunts and uncles and cousins. When he was in the fourth grade, his family moved to Lawton, Oklahoma for a short time before settling in
Chickasha, Oklahoma where his parents purchased the Big Burger Drive-in restaurant. This was truly a family-operated business which included his wonderful grandmother, Nannie. Greg became an accomplished grill cook, flipping burgers to perfection. He often joked that this was the only time that he had the upper hand with his mother, who was the fry cook – the grill cook was boss over the fry cook. He learned first hand what it took to run a successful business, and this would benefit him greatly later in life.
From an early age, Greg and his dad were involved with go-kart racing which involved a lot of trial and error in building, maintaining, improving go-karts and then traveling for go-kart competitions. He learned how to work with a variety of tools and gadgets and was on his way to becoming a handyman/do-it-yourselfer for the rest of his life. He delighted in sharing his knowledge and skills with others, especially with his three sons.
For many years, Greg was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America and was fortunate to have his dad as his Scoutmaster for much of that time. He learned about camping, survival, first aid, good citizenship, and about honoring God and country. He enjoyed traveling with his troop to out-of-state National Boy Scout Jamborees and was very proud of earning the highest rank of Eagle Scout.
When Greg was in junior high school, he took an interest in shortwave radio and became a DJ for a local radio station that broadcast small town news, weather, and music. In High School, he excelled as a trumpet player with the Chickasha High School Band and later became Drum Major, leading the Band at football games and in parades.
After high school graduation, Greg attended DeVry Technical University in Dallas, Texas and was soon hired by Schlumberger Well Services out of San Angelo, Texas as an Electronics Technician/Troubleshooter. It was here that he met his future wife, Lynne, who was earning her teaching degree at Angelo State University. They both attended Angelo Bible Church and were married on September 6, 1980.
Soon after that, Greg and Lynne moved back to Chickasha to help Greg's parents with their thriving real estate business. Greg and his dad took an interest in the locksmith trade and eventually opened up a locksmith business called Alt Lock & Safe. It was during this time that two precious blessings were added to the family - Lance Alan in 1983 and Ryan Edward in 1987 - who contributed greatly to their happiness.
Before long, a decision was made to accept a position with Schlumberger Well Services again, so Greg and his family made a move to Houston, Texas. Greg continued to hone his skills as a locksmith as a hobby. This led him to create his own locksmith business which expanded to include the installation/monitoring of fire and burglar alarm systems. Together, Greg and Lynne built two successful companies, Alarm & Lock Technologies and Alt Security, Inc. During this time, another precious blessing was added to the family - Chad William in 1995 - who completed their joy.
Through the years, Greg enjoyed a wide variety of interests which included taking flying lessons, snow skiing, motorcycling, attending Gold Wing Rallies, teaching concealed handgun courses, collecting coins, trading in the stock market, and traveling coast to coast in an RV. He retired in 2019 and he and Lynne returned to Chickasha in 2022 to care for his ailing mother. His heart's desire in his later years was to become a full-time RVer, crisscrossing this beautiful country that he felt privileged to call home and visiting family and friends along the way. But, God had other plans for Greg, and according to the number of his days, God called him to his eternal home.
Those who knew him well will remember Greg as a dutiful and respectful son, a faithful husband and provider, a proud father of three fine sons who chose to serve their country in the US Navy and the US Marine Corps, and a loyal and steadfast friend. He was a man who definitely had his own way of doing things and had opinions that he was not shy about sharing with others. When he laughed, he laughed heartily; when he frowned, he frowned fiercely; and when he was involved with mischief, he had a twinkle in his eye.
Greg leaves behind Lynne, his devoted wife of 45 years; his son Lance and wife, Shannon, and grandchildren Aurora and Serena; his son Ryan and wife Kate and grandchildren Grant and Autumn; his son Chad; his sister Renee Alt McIntosh and husband, Dorsey, as well as many other extended family members and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and He delights in his way.
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholds him with his hands."
Psalm 37: 23-24
