Melba Rose Langham

Surrounded by her family, Melba Langham passed away quietly at her home in Chickasha on October 28, 2025, at the age of 88.

Melba Rose Patterson was born in Elmore City on March 15, 1937, the first of six children of Horace "Hoss" and Vada Brown Patterson. She attended Elmore City High School, where she was elected football queen and where she graduated in 1955.

After years of acquaintance, she married Harold Rose in Sulphur on March 17, 1955. They and their three children, Opie, Helen, and William "W.A.," lived around the oilfields of central and western Oklahoma in support of Harold's career. Harold passed away in 1994, and in 1998-following a longtime friendship between them and their spouses-Melba married Kenneth Langham, who had been widowed as well.

Melba's Christian faith was at the center of her life. She enthusiastically served at First Missionary Baptist Church until its closing, when she began attending Bible Baptist Church in Chickasha. She loved her ladies' breakfast group, meeting with friends at the senior citizens' center, and staying connected with those dear to her on social media. Melba took every opportunity to bless others with her creativity, including sewing clothing and embroidery. She hosted family meals and game nights over the years, with lots of laughter and great food. She also enjoyed listening to gospel music and traveling to visit friends and family.

Melba was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Betty Jones and Gail Cornado; brothers Dewayne and Joe Patterson; husbands Harold Rose and Kenneth Langham; son-in-law Greg Ratcliff; and daughters-in-law Clyda Rose and Elizabeth Rose. She is survived by brother and sister-in-law Charles "Ray" and Linnie Patterson and their family of Pauls Valley; daughter and son-in-law Opie and Jim Chaney of Kyle, TX; daughter and son-in-law Helen and Martin Burnes of Chickasha; son William "W.A." Rose of Chickasha; granddaughter and grandson-in-law Crystal and Stuart Tidball of Cypress, TX; "granddogs" Jax, Boomer, Grizzly, and Phantom; and other beloved family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at Bible Baptist Church in Chickasha on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Flowers may be sent to the church, and donations in Melba's memory can be made to the Life Skills Institution of Chickasha.
