Gregory Gagnon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Modetz Funeral Home - Silverbell Chapel on May 26, 2024.
Gregory Michael Gagnon 73, of Lake Orion, Michigan passed away on May 24, 2024 after a short battle with cancer. He lived a full and vibrant life, marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his work.
Greg was born on August 27, 1950 to George and Carmella Gagnon in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Osborn High School in 1968, then served in the U.S. Navy. He then attended Michigan State University, and graduated in 1972 while he continued serving in the Navy Reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1978.
He was a science teacher in the Utica School system for 32 years, teaching all ages of kids from elementary to high school throughout his career. He was known for his cool experiments and rocket launches.
Greg married Leslie on August 11, 1999 on the beach in Negril Jamaica. Together they enjoyed a life of adventure, traveling cross country several times in their RV visiting National Parks, as well as many other camping trips with friends. They also enjoyed scuba diving, boating, fishing, and motorcycle riding. They also spent 10 winters as snowbirds in Florida, where they made many new friends.
Greg loved spending time with his sons Gregory and Glen. He was a "hockey dad", taking them to countless games and tournaments, sometimes coaching, and always cheering them on. He also instilled in his sons a respect for natural sciences, education, home repairs, Star Trek, and Dad jokes.
He also had a love for all animals, and eventually became an avid "cat dad". We know he is having a long cuddle with them all now.
Greg's good humor and generous spirit touched everyone he met. He loved connecting with people; whether it was being "Gregory the friendly boater", walking up to construction sites to talk to the workers, or making new friends at campgrounds; he was always ready to meet people with a smile.
He was a strong believer in self-sufficiency, especially when it came to handiness. He always had a home project going on, as well as helping friends and family with their projects.
Greg is survived by his wife of almost 25 years, Leslie; his son Gregory (Lauren) Gagnon and their three daughters; his son Glen (Maria) Gagnon; and sister Georganne Gagnon. He was predeceased by his father George Gagnon, mother Carmella Gagnon, brother Glenn Gagnon, and sister Gail Laudeman.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 - 12pm to 4pm at Oakhurst Golf & Country Club, 7000 Oakhurst Ln., Clarkston, MI 48348.
Greg enjoyed spending time at a rescue farm where he loved feeding the animals. Donations to the rescue can be made in care of Leslie Gagnon, 972 Wildbrook Lane, Lake Orion, Michigan 48362, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
