Gregory Gerig, a resident of Salado, passed away on December 30, 2025, in Temple, Texas, at the age of 73. A visitation will be held at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, Texas, on January 19, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The funeral service will take place the following day, January 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM, also at Dossman Funeral Home, followed by a burial at Bartlett City Cemetery at 11:30 AM.

Greg was born on July 13, 1952, in Temple, to John Albert Gerig and Gladys Marie (Weiderspahn) Gerig.

As a student, Gregory achieved the FFA American Farmer degree and was an active member of the Davila Riding Club. Gregory graduated from Texas A&M University in 1974 with a degree in Ag Mechanics, He married Kathleen Hatten on September 1, 1985, with whom he shared a life filled with love, companionship, evenings on the back deck swing, and long walks.

An Eagle Scout, Gregory spent most of his time outdoors and as part of the agricultural community. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, camping with his grandchildren, sharing stories, listening to his favorite albums, and testing out new recipes on his family. Gregory had a particular fondness for history, especially anything related to the Texas Rangers. His gentle spirit and kind heart made him a beloved figure among family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Kathy Gerig; his son Robert Mitcham and wife Rebecca; his daughter Lisa Edgington and husband Brian; his brother Mike Gerig and wife Ruth; his sister Mona Smalley and husband Jerry; grandchildren Alissa Edgington, Kolton Mitcham and wife Lauren, Ethan Edgington, and Katie Mitcham; and nephews Frank Smalley, Jedd Gerig, and “Bo” Smalley.

Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, John Gerig and Gladys (Weiderspahn) Gerig, who instilled in him the values of hard work and dedication that he carried throughout his life and his nephew, Kale Gerig and niece Erika Gerig

Gregory Gerig will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
