Judith Gerig, affectionately known as Judy to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, at the age of 84 in Sioux Falls, SD. Born on March 19, 1941, in Pierre, SD, Judy's life was a tapestry woven with love, hard work, and the joy of simple pleasures. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Faith Lutheran Church with visitation an hour prior from 10:00-11:00am. Burial will take place at 3:30pm (MST), Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis. CLICK HERE to watch Judith's service online.
Judy was born to the late Peter and Viola (Hand) Fosheim and raised near Midland, SD, where she shared a lively childhood with her 12 siblings. She graduated from Midland High School in 1959 and soon after embarked on a journey that would see her touch many lives with her warmth and dedication. As a young woman, Judy lived in Sturgis and later in Colorado, before eventually settling in Pierre to be closer to her cherished family.
Judy's professional life was marked by 23 years of committed service at the Fort Meade Hospital, where she worked in housekeeping and food service. Her colleagues knew her as a hardworking and reliable member of the team, always ready with a kind word and a helping hand.
Family was the cornerstone of Judy's world. She was a loving mother to her five children, Fred, Joe, Toby, Corey, and Darcy who passed away in 1988. Judy's heart only grew with the arrival of each of her nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who became the recipients of her boundless love and the stories she loved to share.
Her passions extended beyond her family, as Judy enjoyed playing card games, indulging in her sewing projects, and most importantly, spending time with her loved ones. She created a warm and welcoming home where laughter and love were ever-present, and where friends and family were always greeted with open arms.
Judith is survived by her devoted husband, George, and her loving sons, Fred (Diana), Joe (Kris), Toby (Michelle), and Corey. She also leaves behind a legacy of joy and love in her nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her remaining sisters, Edith, Tina, and Ruth, will hold dear the memories of their sister's loving and thoughtful nature.
Preceding Judith in death were her parents; nine siblings, Jean, Pauline, Peter, Richard, George, Joey, Johnny, Vic, Roger; and her daughter, Darcy. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she carried their memories with her throughout her life.
