Gregory Dean "Greg" Hendryx, 57, of Baraboo, WI, formerly of Metamora, IL, passed away at 4:15 pm on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Wisconsin Health Services in Wisconsin Dells, WI, after a short battle with advanced cancer.
He was born on June 28, 1965, in Peoria, IL, to Edgar "Gene" and Eleanor Mae (Kindig) Hendryx.
Surviving are his three sisters, Susan Hendryx and Sharon Hendryx both of Panama City Beach, FL, and Wendy Overend of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Gary Hendryx of Metamora, IL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Greg graduated from Metamora Township High School, followed by service in the U.S. Navy from which he was honorably discharged. His career continued as a first mate aboard the Par-A-Dice casino riverboat in East Peoria, IL, as well as a few years with the Merchant Marines which took him to several Mediterranean countries.
Once back on land, his journey took him to Las Vegas, NV, working in security and then dealing blackjack. His love of colder weather, fishing, and snowmobiles landed him in Baraboo, working for Ho-Chunk casino for many years before his health declined.
Greg had a profound love of Jesus and attended New Hope Church in Baraboo. He was also a member of the American Legion and took much pride in his country.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel in Metamora, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 42040, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or to the American Legion National Headquarters, 700 North Pennsylvania Street, P.O.
