Gregory Wayne Maxey was born August, 12, 1959, in Amarillo, TX to Annie Lou Coleman and Horace Maxey, Jr. He was the oldest of four children born from their union. In 1964, the family moved to Houston, TX and he graduated from Forest Brook High School in 1977. He began a long career with Avis Car Rental after high school, and was a dedicated employee until a work injury forced him into early retirement in 1997.
Gregory was known for his big personality and laughter. He always had a smile and was the life of the party. A devoted family man, he cherished spending time with loved ones and friends. When it was time to relax, he loved keeping his vehicles in perfect condition, cooking soul food, and never missed a Houston Texan's game, as he was their number one fan.
Gregory Wayne Maxey, beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend was called home on May 14, 2025, at the age of 65. He is proceeded in death by his mother and father, brother: Nathaniel Maxey, sister: Johnnie Ann Ross-Bradley, sister: Deanna Maxey-Theus, niece: Chastity Ross, and nephew: Le'Edward Maxey.
He leaves to cherish fond memories of him: partner Hazel Williams, sister - Chicquita Maxey, son Sindell Rice, nephew Nathan Maxey, nieces Pachent Ross, Denisha Maxey- Estes (Tee Estes), Sheree Ross (Tameka Ross), and Shenna Maxey. Great nephews and nieces - lan, Samondra, Servetric Jr., Chyna, Azhalia, Jaylen, Jaden, Terrence, Zhinnia, Zheleya, Zorelle, Zorrian, Great-Great nieces and nephew: Kensley, Kealie, Kaori, Dallas, and host of family and friends, that will also remember him with love and affection.
