Gregory James Noel Sr.

Gregory James Noel Sr., 65, of North Liberty, passed away unexpectedly on November 18, 2025, at his home in North Liberty.

A celebration of life will be held at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City on Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 2:00PM to 4:00PM.

Greg was born in Iowa City, Iowa on July 14, 1960. The son of Keith and Mary (York) Noel, he was the youngest of six boys and was raised in the Iowa City area. He was a graduate of West High School in Iowa City.

Greg married Nancy Philpot on July 14, 1984, and to this union two children were born, Greg "Aug" Jr. and Stacy. Greg and Nancy were married for twenty-nine years, until Nancy's passing in 2013, following a battle with COPD and emphysema.

Greg was owner of Greg Noel's Nursery and tree service. He had been working up until his death. Greg also volunteered as a firefighter in North Liberty during the 1990's.

Greg was fond of spending time in the garden and enjoyed being able to grill food and smoke meats, especially his turkeys which turned black. He also spent time in the tree nursery tending to the various saplings. Greg enjoyed going to his oldest grandson's, Jackson, sporting events over the years. He enjoyed deer hunting and mushroom hunting too. Greg had a large collection of PBR memorabilia that he was proud of. He enjoyed trying his luck with the latest lottery scratch-offs; he also loved his three labrador retrievers: Cocoa, Jake, and Barney.

Greg will be remembered for his sarcastic sense of humor.

Greg is survived by his children, Greg "Aug" Noel Jr. and Stacy Noel; grandsons, Jackson and Cohen, and several cousins.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy (Philpot) Noel; his parents; and his in-laws, James and Hazel (Read) Noel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the North Liberty Food Bank and North Liberty Boy Scout Troop 216.
