Gregory Charles Peniston

September 25, 1956 – August 16, 2025

Gregory Charles Peniston, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at his family home in Neptune, New Jersey, on August 16, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was 68 years old.

Born on September 25, 1956, in Neptune to Reginald and Carolyn Peniston, Greg was the firstborn of four children. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Michael Peniston Sr. He is survived by his sister Joanne Peniston, his brother Jeffery Peniston, and sister-in-law Deborah Peniston. He also leaves behind uncles Dwight Gray and Mark Gray, aunt Paulette Wainright, nieces Shannah Baker, Chelsey Peniston, and Victoria Peniston, nephews Michael Peniston II. and Sean Peniston, great-niece Jasmyn Sanders, great-nephew Sidney Woodside III (to them, he was "Unca Greg"-cool, fun, artistic, and big-hearted). He will also be deeply missed by his lifelong best friend Mark Warren, along with a host of cousins, extended family, and childhood friends who adored him deeply.

Greg was a graduate of Neptune High School, Class of 1974. He excelled both academically and athletically. A gifted hurdler, he helped lead Neptune's track team to multiple championships. Among his many accomplishments, he won gold medals at the 1973 Long Branch Relays in the 480-yard shuttle hurdles, silver medals at the 1974 Long Branch Relays and Monmouth County Championships, and was a key member of Neptune's 1974 Group IV Indoor State and Class A Outdoor Championship teams. His teammates remembered him as a radiant presence-handsome, witty, and always smiling-with a sense of humor that could light up a locker room.

In addition to athletics, Greg's creativity and passion for learning set him apart. Voted 'Most Artistic' by his senior class and serving on the Senior Council, he carried a lifelong love for drawing and design, excelling in artistry and creative expression. He also had a constant thirst for knowledge and history, often seeking to learn and share what he discovered. His talent, intellect, and joyful spirit touched many and left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

After high school, Greg attended Cornell University and was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. In later years, Greg built a meaningful career at Jersey Shore Medical Center, where he worked faithfully as a medical courier. Known for his reliability, kindness, and trademark smile, he was respected and loved by colleagues throughout the hospital. He retired in 2019, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, friendship, and service.

Greg will be remembered for his warmth, humility, laughter, and resilience. His radiant smile and kind spirit brightened every room he entered. To his family and friends, he was a steady source of love, laughter, and joy. Greg's legacy will live on in their hearts forever.
