Gregory Philip Spalding

Gregory Philip Spalding, 75, of Chattanooga, TN passed away on Saturday, February 14th, 2026.

Greg was born September 10, 1950, in Pleasant Hill, Illinois to Joseph and Helen Spalding. He attended elementary school in Waverly, IL. Greg graduated from Litchfield High School in 1968. He attended Illinois State University obtaining a bachelor's degree in history.

Greg worked for State Farm insurance for over 35 years. He spent 6 years in health claims, but the remainder of his time was dedicated to the Agency Department. Greg had many found memories of his co-workers over the years.

Greg was an avid fan of tennis and sports in general. He played racquetball and tennis most of his life and traveled to the Cincinnati tennis tournament every year . As a young man, the only sports broadcast he could receive was the St. Louis Cardinals baseball games. He would listen to and score each game. He remained a Cardinals fan for the remainder of his life.. He enjoyed monthly poker games with his friends, ISU basketball games, westerns, and was a movie buff. He loved spending time with family, including his grandkids' extra-curricular activities.

Greg will be remembered for his warmth, unconditional love, and generosity. His legacy will live on through the many lives he has touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving is his sister Martha Stewart of Union City, TN; child, Jeff Spalding; Stepdaughter, Jodi Blumenshine (John) of Bloomington IL; grandchildren Alyssa, Molly, Aidan, Mya and Max Blumenshine of Bloomington, IL.

A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
