Gregory Stanke Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Funeral Services on Dec. 9, 2025.
It is with great sadness that I share the news that my son, Gregory A Stanke has passed to his reward in Heaven. He was born in Milwaukee on August 22, 1969 and he chose the date of October 29, 2025 to enter eternal life, in Garden City Idaho.
Our family moved to East Troy from Bay View when Greg was in 2nd grade and his sister Robin was in 4th. We settled in a big old drafty house on Main St, full of local history. That was in 1976. Growing up in East Troy was magical for my children. Golfing and skiing at Alpine Valley, endless bike rides, tubing, fishing and swimming at Booth Lake and many adventures at Black Bridge. After Greg graduated from high school in 1987, he proudly served in the US Navy aboard an amphibious assault ship, the USS Peleliu which was named after a World War II battle. He sailed the seas and was honorably discharged in 1993. Greg spent most of his adult life living, working and raising his family in the southern California area. He worked in the coffee industry for Torke, Sara Lee and lastly Melitta. He and his wife Angie recently moved to Garden City to be closer to their youngest daughter.
Greg was a devoted father to his girls Korina and Kylie. They will forever remember their Dad and the great forts he built for them as well as the hiking, biking, watching movies and just hanging out. He always put them first.
Greg had a talent for refurbishing and redesigning unique bicycles for family and friends and even clients. He was truly a guy with many interests and talents. He touched countless lives with his kindness, laughter and generosity. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome whether it was through his quick wit, his big heart or those unforgettable karaoke nights that bought so much joy to everyone around him.
He leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Angela. His daughters Korina and Kylie. Mom, Dorothy Shaver and sister Robin Stanke and countless Wisconsin and California family members and friends. Deceased grandparents, Cyril and Mary (Hollister) Kilpin and Alex and Stella Stanke, his Dad Kenneth Stanke, and Step Dad, Richard Shaver now welcome him to his Heavenly home.
A wonderful CELEBRATION OF LIFE was held for Greg on November 8th in Downey CA. His spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who know him. The next time you are visiting the Veterans Memorial on the ET square, please stop by Greg's memorial brick and say a prayer for a man who loved growing up in wonderful East Troy.
Depression is often invisible as it was in Greg. People don't fake depression, they fake being OK. Mental illness is real and effects countless families. Our family knows firsthand and our hearts are breaking.
To my Precious Son in Heaven
I wish I could see your smile again, but I know you now rest peacefully. I carry your laughter in my heart and your courage in my soul. I will miss you with every breath ~ until we meet again. Mom
