Gregory Staples Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duncan Graves Funeral Home - Presque Isle on Jan. 5, 2026.
Presque Isle - Gregory "Gregg" G. Staples, 77, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Caribou Healthcare Center, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 8, 1948, in Presque Isle, the son of Philip and Hazel (Conley) Staples.
Gregg grew up in Presque Isle and graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1966. He then attended and graduated from the University of Maine in 1968, with an associate degree in Ag Business Management. On September 12, 1969, Gregg married his high school sweetheart, Connie Chandler, with whom he would share fifty-six years of marriage. He was a local potato farmer who lived and worked on the now fifth-generation family farm, all his life. Gregg enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren, whether on the farm, hunting, fishing, ranger rides, or attending their sporting events. Even after his retirement, Gregg could be found riding around the fields, checking on the boys, crew, and crops.
He was a member of the 4-H, FFA, Central Aroostook Young Farmers Association, and his college fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, where many lifelong friendships were made.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie (Chandler) Staples of Presque Isle, three sons, Shannon Staples and his wife, Bethany of Presque Isle, Todd Staples and his wife Jessica of Lincoln, MA, and Philip Staples and his wife Amy of Presque Isle, twelve grandchildren, Blake, Brynn (Justin), Cole (Alyssa), Alec, Camden, Adrian, Lily, Elijah, Martin, Maya, Jonathan, and Isaac, as well as three great-granddaughters, Lilah, Chandler, and Reese. Gregg is also survived by a brother, David Staples and his wife, Linda of Palm Harbor, FL, sister-in-law, Terrie Allen and her husband, Frank of Jacksonville, NC, nieces, Jennifer Pierce of Saco, Dena Gates of Jacksonville, NC, nephews, Travis Chandler of Virginia, Brandon Chandler of Michigan, aunts Janice and Kay, as well as many special cousins. He will also be remembered by special friends, Brandon Roope and Mike Martin for their "Sunday morning on tour rides", as well as his furry favorite, "Oliver".
In addition to his parents, Philip and Hazel Staples, Gregg was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arnold and Beulah Chandler, sister-in-law, Trudy Jones, and brother-in-law, Tyler Chandler.
The compassionate care he received over the last few years from Dr. Carl Flynn and the staff at the Caribou Healthcare Center will forever be remembered and appreciated by the family.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Green Ridge Cemetery, in Caribou, with the Rev. Kevin Kierstead officiating. The family will also hold a gathering of remembrance following the graveside service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Gregg's memory be made payable to the Maine Parkinson's Society, The Maine Alzheimer's Association, or a charitable organization of one's choosing. Arrangements in care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, ME 04769. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at: www.duncan-graves.com

We were so saddened to hear of Greg's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Connie and your beautiful family. We were blessed to have you all in our life and to call Greg our friend. Greg was a special man and friend who made our world a better place. We have so many memories of time spent with your family. We will always treasure those Sunday morning breakfasts with you, the Martins, and Brandon. Those were such fun special times together. God must have needed a special angel because he picked one of the best. You are in are our thoughts and prayers as we honor and cherish our memories of a very special man who left this world too early but a better place for having been in it. Sending you all a big hug and our love. Take Care - Alan, Linda, Scott and Katy and families
