Gregory John Tyler, known as "Shorty" to most, traded his riding boots in for a set of heavenly wings on October 3, 2024. He was a nonconformist, who rode life by the seat of his pants and when an opportunity came his way, he jumped on it.
Greg was born August 6, 1962 in Meadville, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don C. and Patricia A. (Naas) Tyler, his maternal grandparents, Casper and Anna Naas and paternal grandparents, Donald C. and Patricia Tyler. He is survived by his Uncle Gene and Aunt Gay (Tyler) Mason, his Aunt Glenda Naas, his brother, Carl (Jay) and wife Kim Tyler, brother, Douglas B. Tyler and Joetta Post, brother, Kevin S. Tyler, several nieces and nephews, and cousins, and his adorable puppy, Precious.
Greg grew up on the family's dairy farm in Beaver, Pennsylvania. He took great pride in the dairy business his family had built. As an adult, he lived in multiple locations, a few of which were West Virginia, Florida, and North Carolina. He eventually returned to his hometown in Ohio and settled on the family land. He worked for the Delta railroad for a number of years, had numerous handyman positions, but was most at home working on the farm.
He was a true Harley enthusiast, traveling by bike all over the states and usually with a pretty girl on the back. There was a special place in his heart for children, and they simply adored him showering him with hugs, giggles, stories and their art work. Each year, he looked forward to deer season, not so much for the hunting but for the enjoyment of preparing a venison stew or chili. He could cook anything and make it taste delicious.
Shorty was a hero in disguise; this "Mr. Fix It" had an innate sense for when someone was in need. He would just show up at your door, repair what was broken, pay your rent, or share his home if you needed a place to stay. His presence would light up a room, lifting even a stranger's spirit. What a storyteller he was! His laugh was contagious. Greg's gentle soul and giving nature were genuine. He modeled compassion and inspired others to be thoughtful, kind and considerate. We are blessed to have known him and better people due to lessons he modeled and shared through his stories. This is how he left his mark on the world.
An intimate service will be held at Harmony Ridge on the River, 3544 Stanhope-Kelloggsville Road B, Kingsville, Ohio 44048 at 12:00PM on Saturday, October 19, 2024 followed by a Celebration of Life open to the public from 2:00-6:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to any children's charity would be a wonderful way to honor him.
