Gretchen Louise Neidlinger Morgan went to be with the Savior on Sunday, February 4, 2024, the month of her 108th year.
Born February 21, 1916, in Corning, OH, Gretchen was the daughter of the late Claude and Eunice Gates Neidlinger. She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Byron E. Morgan, Jr., who served in the Navy in WWII. She endured the loss of her only two brothers who were killed in action in the war.
Gretchen had a rich life. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Wherever her husband went to coach football, whether in Pennsylvania or Ohio, she was always involved with leadership roles in her children's schools, as a volunteer or presiding in women's service organizations.
Upon retirement to Candler, NC, she became an active member of Acton United Methodist Church and member of the choir as well as volunteering at The Cove, and was an active member of Pisgah Retirement Community, driving herself until she was 99 ½ years of age.
Leaving to cherish her memory are daughters, Karen Norris and Marjorie Satterthwait; sons, Byron Morgan and Robert Morgan; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren, all whom she loved and encouraged. She was so very proud of her family.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Acton United Methodist Church.
Interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Findlay, Ohio.
Donations in her memory can be made to Acton UMC Church, 171 Sand Hill School Rd., Asheville, NC 28806.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.
