Grier C. Buckingham, Jr., passed away on July 8, 2025, just one day shy of his 74th birthday. Born on July 9, 1951, in Columbia, South Carolina, Grier's journey through life was marked by his unwavering spirit, and a broad circle of friends who adored him. After a lifetime of shared memories and experiences, Grier departed this world in
Bradenton, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the indelible mark of his presence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grier and Ruth Buckingham, as well as his son, Shawn Buckingham, whose memories remain a beacon of light for all who knew them. Grier's life was a testament to his dedication and hard work. As a maintenance technician, he was known for his reliability and skill, traits that earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates. His professional life was characterized by the same level of commitment and enthusiasm he brought to every aspect of his existence. Outside of work, Grier was a man of diverse interests and talents. He was an avid NASCAR enthusiast, a passion that brought excitement and joy to his life. Bowling was another activity where he showcased his competitive spirit and camaraderie. Hunting and fishing were more than hobbies; they were opportunities for reflection, connection with nature, and the creation of lasting memories. Grier was also known for his love of dance, a testament to his vibrant and youthful spirit. Grier's competitive nature found another outlet in his participation in a local pool league. Here, he forged many wonderful friendships, with too many cherished friends to mention individually. Each one held a special place in his heart, and he in theirs. He leaves behind a beautiful family who will miss him dearly, including his daughters Noelle (Dewayne Reese), Melanie (Gene Henley, Jr.), and Michelle Valladares. His grandchildren, Brandon McLean, Matthew Briere, and Riley Henley. Those who knew Grier would describe him as incredibly handy and having unfailingly friendly qualities. His headstrong and determined nature ensured that he approached every task with fervor and saw it through to completion. Grier C. Buckingham, Jr.'s life was one of purpose and pleasure, hard work and happiness. He was a man who, worked diligently, and played wholeheartedly. Grier will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will be treasured forever by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
