Robert Lee "Bobby" Buckingham, Jr., age 77, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2024, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.
He was born on April 21, 1947, in Jackson, TN, the son of the late Robert L. Buckingham, Sr. and Opal Delena Granger Buckingham.
Bobby was a cherished member of his community and leaves behind a legacy marked by his kindness, humor, and dedication to his craft. Bobby enjoyed a distinguished career spanning over forty years with the Jackson Sun in the Advertising Department, where his commitment left a lasting impact. He was also a proud graduate of South Side High School and West Tennessee Business College, which laid the foundation for his successful professional life.
Music was an integral part of Bobby's existence. He passionately engaged with gospel music throughout his life and devoted twenty-two years to performing with The Brotherhood Quartet, The Good News Singers, and the Olde Tyme Harmony Quartet. His dedication to this art form was a source of immense pride and joy for him, reflecting a deep love for sharing this passion with others.
Known for his wonderful sense of humor, Bobby had an innate ability to brighten the lives of those around him. He was a deeply appreciative person who consistently expressed his gratitude to family and friends, acknowledging their importance in his life. An avid Atlanta Braves fan, he found joy in the camaraderie of sports, further connecting with those who shared in his enthusiasm.
Bobby is survived by his sister, Brenda Shires, his uncle, Lynn Granger and wife Kathy, and numerous family members, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
SERVICES: A funeral service celebrating Bobby's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2024, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Rev. Guinn Hodges officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Arrington Funeral Directors beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continuing until the service at 12:00 p.m.
Bobby leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories that will be cherished by his loved ones and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His spirit will continue to resonate through the music he loved, the laughter he shared, and the lives he touched.
