A funeral service celebrating the life of James R. Dennison, age 95, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Woodland Baptist Church with Rev. Stacy McCollum officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

A visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 P.M. at Woodland Baptist Church.

James died on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He was born on November 22, 1930, to the late Nick and Feda Jennings Dennison in Oakfield, TN. He graduated from Northside High School in 1949, where he played on the school’s first football team. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was married to the late Margaret Lindsey Dennison for sixty-two years before her death in 2013. He continued his education at West Tennessee Business College and graduated from Union University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was a long-time member of Woodland Baptist Church, serving in various capacities. He was a bi-vocational Baptist minister serving several churches in the area from 1958 thru 1990. He also worked for the J. C. Edenton Co., Ragland-Potter Wholesale Grocer, Malone & Hyde and retired from the Jackson Sun in 1993.

James is survived by his son, Jim (Melissa) Dennison Jackson, TN, his daughter, Susan (John) Dennison Gilbert of Jackson, TN; a granddaughter, Lindsey (Wes) Dennison DeShazo of Chattanooga, TN; a grandson, Bryan (Megan) Dennison of Jackson, TN; three great grandchildren, Crew Dennison and James and Jackson DeShazo. He is also survived by a sister, Patricia Chamberlain of Milan, TN.

Along with his parents and his wife, James was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Curtis Dennison, Jack Dennison and Floyd Dennison and two sisters, Narcie Alderson and Betty Bryan.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that memorial contributions be directed to Woodland Baptist Church, 365 Wallace Road, Jackson, TN 38305.
