Grover Marrow of
Newport News, Virginia, formally of Queens, New York, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025 at the age of 73. Grover Marrow was born on November 19, 1951 in
Newport News, Virginia. Grover was the beloved son of the late Peachy Marrow Junior of
Newport News, VA and the late Geraldine Holmes Marrow of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Grover was a man of many talents and interests. He owned and operated a successful painting business, Technique (LTD). He was known for his exceptional skill and painting, and making rooms come to life. His love and passion for painting was exemplified through his work. Grover was an avid bowler always in a league where he enjoyed both the competition and camaraderie. Most of all he enjoyed fishing. He loved fishing with friends and family. He spent a lot of peaceful hours by the water.
He became a devoted fan of NASCAR. He would frequently be found watching car races on TV cheering his favorite driver. Grover had a unique fondness for elephants. He collected many various forms throughout his life. Because of their remarkable memory, he also could recall details and stories with ease.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Laura Marrow; his sons Shannon Marrow and Michael Marrow; his cherished grandson Kamanie Marrow.; his brothers Mark Lamar Mingo, Gary Mingo; his sister's Beverly Mingo, Sandra Mingo Osborne, Fern Mingo of Charlotte, North Carolina; step-mother April Marrow; step sister Rosetta Coles of Mesa Arizona; cousins Luvenia Heflin, The Gwynn Family, The Bird Family, The Henderson family of Newport News VA, The Holmes family of Newport News VA; three brother-in-laws Jack Freeman Jr., John Freeman, and Mark Freeman; three sisters-in-law Melodie Freeman Horsford of Newport News, Shatiera Freeman, and Shashon Freeman of New York City; And a host of niece's and nephew's and many friends. Grover's family was the center of his whole world, and he took great pride in their accomplishments and happiness.
Grover Marrow will be remembered for his warm love for his family. Also known as "Uncle Grover" to many, he had a vibrant spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A service to honor and celebrate Grover's life will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 at 1 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home Denbigh Chapel located at 12893 Jefferson Ave.,
