David C. Ostrom, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army Retired, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, at the age of 83 in Newport News, VA. Born on March 6, 1942, in Findlay, OH, David led a life defined by service, adventure, and unwavering dedication to his family and passions.

David embarked on a distinguished military career that spanned decades, serving his country with honor and distinction. He bravely served during the Vietnam War and completed tours of duty in Korea and Germany. His commitment to the nation and his fellow soldiers was a testament to his strength of character and leadership. His decorations included the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal and many other awards. His last military assignment was as Director, Directorate of Logistics, for 5 years at Fort Eustis, VA, followed by a civilian career in the logistics field.

A man of intellect and curiosity, David pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio, and a Master's degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He was a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College. His pursuit of knowledge was paralleled by an adventurous spirit and a love for all things automotive. David found great joy in driving mountain roads, the Autobahn and visiting automotive museums and car shows. He loved listening to music and his yellow Labrador retrievers, who accompanied him on all travels here and in Europe

It was in West Germany where David met the love of his life, Ellen, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage of 59 years. Together, they built a loving life with laughter and many cherished memories. David delighted in spending time with Ellen and their dear friends, savoring each moment with those he loved most.

Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Martha Ostrom Marks, David leaves behinds his loving and devoted wife, Ellen and many cousins and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. He was raised by his caring grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Horner, on their Ohio farm. They provided a stable and very loving childhood, for which he was deeply grateful.

David's legacy is one of courage, integrity, and an enduring zest for life. He inspired all who knew him with his devotion to family, country, and personal passions. His memory will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those he touched.
