Darryl Irvin Randolph, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed veteran, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, in
Newport News, Virginia at the age of 86. Born on September 1, 1939 in Richmond, Virginia, Darryl lived a life marked by service, passion, and dedication.
Darryl proudly served his country as a helicopter pilot in the United States Army, a career that took him to the skies and across the world including two tours of duty to Vietnam. After retiring from military service, he continued to pursue his love for aviation as a model airplane enthusiast. His interests were as varied as they were numerous, including computer games, desktop publishing, macramé, and gardening, where he found joy in nurturing everything that grew.
A man of intellect and curiosity, Darryl held a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering from Hampton Institute and another in computer science from Christopher Newport University. He was an active member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association and dedicated time volunteering at the Hampton University Museum.
Darryl was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Samuel L. Randolph and Ora E. Harris Randolph, and his cherished son, Keith D. Randolph. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Sandra Randolph; his loving daughter, Tracie Jackson, and her husband Larry; and his treasured grandchildren, Kevin Ivey, Patryce King and her husband Marcell, and Melanie Ivey. He also leaves behind his brother, Lynwood Randolph, and his wife Judith; his sister, Sondra Draper, and her husband James; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home - Denbigh Chapel, followed by a service at 12 p.m. Darryl will be laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date, a fitting tribute to a man who served his country with honor and distinction.
Darryl Irvin Randolph will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his many passions. His legacy of love, service, and enthusiasm for life will continue to inspire all who knew him.
