Guadalupe “Lupe” Esquibel, 73 of Vaughn, New Mexico passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at his home. He was born January 24, 1950 in Santa Rosa. He grew up on the family ranch in Pintada, NM. Lupe attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School and graduated from Vaughn High School with the class of 1968. He attended Luna Community College for a while.

While in high school, Lupe worked at service stations in Vaughn, worked on the family ranch in Pintada and also worked as a ranch hand for the DelCurto Family. He later worked for J.D. McDaniel delivering propane. Lupe worked for the BNSF Railroad as a Section Hand.

Lupe served in the United States Marines, he was honorably discharged on March 23, 1970. Lupe was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vaughn.

He was a talented musical artist, and recorded music for many years. He called his music Country Western, Rock A Billy Music. He also loved to play Spanish music and recently completed a religious CD. He was also an author. Lupe loved to pick Pinon, he always knew where the best crop could be found. Anyone wanting to know would contact The Pintada Kid for information. According to his children, Lupe was a Treasurer Hunter, loved to hike in the mesa, an avid rock hound, and had a great sense of humor. Lupe loved his garden and raising flowers. He also sold red chile powder, and snow cones.

Lupe is preceded in death by his parents Moises Esquibel and Dolores Espinosa, maternal grandparents Bernardo and Manuela Espinosa, paternal grandparents Antonio and Aurora Esquibel, a sister Angie Arguello, half-sister Beatrice Martinez, and a step brother Louis Esquibel.

Survivors include three children, two daughters Donna Esquibel-Cracium (Freddy) of Littleton, CO, Angelica Gaintner (Gary) of Tijeras, NM, one son Mark Esquibel (Diana) of Durango, CO, one sister Mary Ann Aragon of Albuquerque, the mother of his children Grace Roybal of Fort Sumner, three cousins raised as siblings Dolores Wood, Phillip Hoehne, and Nancy Ann Flores. Also surviving are seven grandchildren Shelbie DiGiacomo (Casey), Adrianna Siko (John), Aolani Esquibel (Matthew), Garrett Gaintner, Everett Gaintner, Maleko Esquibel, and Jesse James Esquibel. Great-grandchildren Ayden DiGiacomo, Paige DiGiacomo, Mason Johnson, Dakota Carver, Anthony Siko, and Aerys Siko along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Holy Rosary, followed by the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023 at St. Mary's Parish in Vaughn, NM.  Interment with military honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Vaughn, NM. Pallbearers will include, Frank Aragon Jr., Gary Gaintner, Maleko Esquibel, Gabe Aragon, Adam Arguello, and Freddy Cracium.
