Washington, UT? Gunter Henry George Ernst passed away on June 17, 2023 at his home in Washington, Utah due to health issues. Born in Hannover, Germany, July 18, 1936, he was the son of Friedrich and Hedwig Ernst, both deceased. He is survived by his sister Gertrud, living in Hannover, Germany; children; Suzanne, Mark, Roland, Stephanie, Craig and Anthony. His beloved wife Sheila Rae Tripp Ernst, of 32 years marriage, and her daughter Janine Jensen Christiansen preceded Gunter in death.

Gunter grew up in Germany during WWII. He joined the LDS church in Germany in 1954 and he came to Salt Lake City in December 1955. He arrived in Salt Lake City on December 19, 1955 and was taken in by friends. His first job in the US was with Strevell-Patterson in their warehouse where he worked until June 1957, when he decided to enlist in the US Army with guarantees to be stationed in Germany. Gunter spent 45 months in the US Army, Artillery and was stationed in Fort Ord, CA, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, Ft. Dix, N.J., Nellingen/Stuttgart-Germany with the 23rd AA Battalion and in Ansbach, Germany with the 210th Artillery Group Headquarters until he was honorably discharged from the Army at Ft. Hamilton, N.Y. in March of 1961. From May 1961 until July 2000 he worked for the EIMCO Corporation, in their Filter Division. He held several supervisor and management positions during his 39 years with EIMCO. Gunter loved living in this great country and it was with pride and appreciation for our freedom that he became an American Citizen in 1961.

It is Gunter's wish to be cremated and his ashes interred in the Riverton Cemetery, joined in the same grave with the ashes of his beloved wife Sheila. A graveside service only will be held on July 19, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Riverton Cemetery located at 1500 West 13200 South Riverton, Utah.
