Gussie Inavern Daugherty, a beloved resident of Rogers, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Her soul was reunited with her heavenly family, and she will forever be cherished in the hearts of all who knew her.
Gussie was born in Mossville, Arkansas, on March 30, 1939, to late Lewis and Audrey Watson.
Gussie married her true love, George Daugherty. They were married for 61 years before he was called home on July 2, 2017, and together they had four children: Bobby Daugherty, Julia Thompson, Samuel Daugherty, and Rodney Daugherty.
Gussie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. When inquired about her occupation, she would simply state that she took care of children. She was a Nanny and took great pride and happiness in the children she cared for.
In her early years, she cherished traveling with her family, particularly her fondest memories of the adventures in San Francisco, California; Yosemite National Park; and Ketchikan, Alaska. Additionally, the Daugherty family is known for its racing heritage, and you would often find her in the stands, cheering on her husband and sons as they crossed the finish line.
Gussie had an astounding love for children and touched the lives of many generations through those she cared for. This is why she is known by those who genuinely know and love her as "Nanny." She enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren, and one of their favorite activities together was traversing Northwest Arkansas on Saturday mornings, looking for garage sales and good deals. If only bad deals or no deals were to be found, it could all be fixed with a big ole watermelon.
The great-grandchildren kept her young, and she adored them, always saving them a smile and a big hug.
Gussie is survived by her three children: Bobby Daugherty and his wife Amy, Julia Thompson, and Samuel Daugherty and his wife Sharon; three grandchildren: Adam Daugherty and his wife Jessica, Kyle Daugherty, and Alysia Thompson; three great-grandchildren: Ameria, Preston, and Madalee Daugherty; and sister, Cathy McKinney.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Daugherty; son, Rodney Daugherty; sisters, Virgie Howell and Dena Jones; and brothers, James Watson and Dennis Watson.
Funeral services will be held at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale. Pastor James Howell will officiate. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM on Saturday, July 19, 2025, with the funeral service starting at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Bluff Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Daugherty, Samuel Daugherty, Rick Minyard, Adam Daugherty, Kyle Daugherty, and Preston Daugherty. Honorary pallbearers include Jack Minyard, Ronnie Howell, Kenneth Howell, Jeff Howell, and Dennis Perry.
