Renee Irene Daugherty, of Commerce Township, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025, after a courageous 10 year battle with oral cancer. She was 69 years old.
Renee was born on January 8, 1956, the youngest child of Jennings H. Tison and Irene (Ralph) Graves. She graduated with honors from Southfield High School in 1974 and went on to work mainly in administrative positions for various different companies throughout her career. She was proficient in her organizational skills and keen attention to detail, adept at her use of grammar and the written word, and highly empathetic in her communication. Renee's father always said, "A job worth doing is a job worth doing well," and she employed this mantra in everything she did in life. The final 10 year stretch of her career was spent at Auria Solutions, a company that supported her immensely throughout her long battle with cancer and family loss. Renee always spoke so highly of her boss and co-workers, and this was felt mutually by her many peers.
Renee greatly prided herself on being a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She married her high school sweetheart and first husband, Bruce, in 1975, and had her first child, Kelley, in 1977. While the marriage was short-lived, they remained the best of friends until his death in 1988. Her second husband, Dennis, was who she considered to be her soul mate. After many happy years together, they had two boys: Chase was born in 1990 and Devin was born in 1993. Dennis's health later took a turn for the worse due to COPD, emphysema, diabetes, and other complications. Renee was his loyal wife and caregiver until his death in 2005. Their boys were the best of friends all through their lives until Devin's tragic loss in 2016.
Renee loved her mother, Irene, dearly. She taught her at a young age that family is the most important thing, in addition to selflessness, kindness, courage and determination, and how to keep a level head when life gets tough. Renee always admired her wisdom and endless love for her family. Renee greatly looked up to her older sister, Sherry, who taught her so many life skills, took care of her in times of need, and served as an inspiration for her own artistic pursuits. Renee treasured her grandchildren and great grandsons, and relished in being able to share her family traditions. She loved the passion, sense of humor, and empathy displayed by her three children, who she loved with her whole heart.
Renee had many hobbies. She loved to craft, including latch hook rugs and various sewing projects, Christmas stockings, stuffed animals, and wreaths. She loved to cook many different dishes for birthdays, holidays, family gatherings, and cozy nights in. Her culinary specialty was baking delicious dessert treats, such as assorted cookies and cakes. She loved to travel with family and friends, play scrabble, read books, watch movies and TV shows, dance with her loved ones, and lay out in the sun.
Renee exhibited many upstanding values: kindness is paramount, help others in need of help, treat animals with love, work hard for the things you love, admit mistakes, respect yourself if you want others to respect you, and always fiercely love and respect your family, friends, and co-workers.
Despite suffering numerous losses in her life, including her father, mother, close friends, and youngest son, Devin, in addition to being a longstanding caregiver for her late husband, Dennis, and lastly fighting a very long and traumatic battle with oral cancer, she remained a courageous and positive person who put everyone before herself. She considered herself to be a happy person, and she always felt that a life well lived is one in which you are happy overall.
Renee remained a patient, loving, and loyal warrior until her very last breath.
Daughter of the late Jennings H. Tison and Irene (Ralph) Graves, Renee is survived by her children, Kelley (John) Paronish, Chase Daugherty; grandchildren, Gabrielle and Logan Young; great grandson, Maverick Treece; sister, Sherry (Gary) Williams; nieces, Melissa Sinclair, Kristyn (James) Pike; through her marriage to Dennis, step-daughters, Tracy Daugherty, Brenna (Mark Giller) Daugherty, Gwynne Daugherty, and Shea Daugherty; grandchildren, Tarina Daugherty, Hanlon Daugherty-Clifford, Keenan Daugherty-Coleman, Jameson Daugherty-Coleman, Isaiah Daugherty, and Cadence Daugherty-Tinsley; great grandchildren, Holden Daugherty-Clifford, Milo Weise, Elian Petzold, and Lucian Petzold; also many extended family and dear friends.
