With a chuckle in our hearts and a grin on our faces, we fondly remember the life of Gussie Hill, our beloved Gus. Born on February 7, 1947, in Austin, TX, Gus was a loyal friend, a funny character, a loving family man, and a humble soul. His life was a testament to his favorite quote, "Sweet, Adorable, Loveable Gus- after me there is one more and he is in Dallas." This sense of humor was a beacon that brightened even the gloomiest days.
Gus was a man of many talents and passions. He bravely served a four-year tour of duty in the Vietnam War, a testament to his courageous spirit. After his service, he dedicated himself to the field of education at UT, leaving a positive impact on countless lives. Gus was a true Texan at heart and had a deep love for baseball. His zest for life and dedication to his family was infectious, making him a joyous presence to be around.
Gus is survived by his daughters, Pamela Hill-Flentroy(Stacy) and Deidre Hill (Deon), and his son, Gussie III(Carol). He also leaves behind his step-children, Anthony Anderson (Sarah), Terrance Anderson, Tonya Haywood, and Howard Haywood, along with a grand total of 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren from Dallas and Austin. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gussie Hill and Rachel Bonner, his wife, Rhonda Hill, one great-granddaughter, and one step-daughter.
Public visitation will be held at the King-Tears Mortuary located at 1300 East 12th Street, Austin, Texas, 78702 on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at 4:00 The funeral service will be held at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at 9300 Decker Lane, Austin, Texas, 78724 on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 11:00 am CST. Interment will take place on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 9:00 am CST at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery located at 11463 Texas 195, Killeen, Texas, 76542.
