BAUER, Gustav Eric
G. Eric Bauer, a beloved husband, father, stepfather, and grandfather, passed away on January 31, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on January 26, 1935, in Queens, NY, Eric lived most of his life in Minneapolis.
A graduate of Queens College, Eric went on to earn his Ph.D. in Anatomy at the University of Minnesota. For over 50 years, then, he taught Anatomy and Histology in the medical and dental schools at the U. In addition, he pursued his research both at the U. and, for many summers, at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA.
Eric had wide interests. He sailed Lake Minnetonka and the waters off Cape Cod; he also fished for cod in Newfoundland, where he spent many happy times at a second home in Flatrock. He also pursued his love for music, playing violin in chamber groups and in the Civic Orchestra of Minneapolis. He will be remembered best, perhaps, for his warm, funny presence. He had a style all his own and was a storyteller par excellence.
Eric is survived by Jean M. Bauer (Gale), of West Bay Centre, Newfoundland, Canada, his wife and the love of his life for over 50 years. In addition, he is survived by his children Stephen and his wife Suzanne Marcus, Jennifer and her partner Allen Constant, and Katherine and her husband Scott Pollock; his stepsons Daniel Winden and wife Elizabeth Rosholt Winden, and Phillip Winden; and grandchildren Nicholas Marcus-Bauer, Natalie Marcus-Bauer, Samuel Winden, Avery Winden and his wife Grace Lehinger-Winden, and Berrit Winden.
A memorial service for Eric is being planned. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Civic Orchestra of Minneapolis.
