Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kannaday Funeral Home - Latta on Jul. 30, 2025.
Hepsy Greer Parham passed away peacefully Thursday at Lexington Medical Center, surrounded by her children after a year of declining health. Born in 1935, Hepsy was the first child of Ben Fred Greer and Hepsylene Brockman Greer. She had a younger brother, Ben Fred Greer, Jr. who died in childhood. She is survived by her younger sisters, Nan Greer Stroud and Jeanne Greer Hughston. Her early life was filled with wonderful activities of life in Belton, SC amid close and extended family.
Hepsy graduated from Belton High School, Class of 1953. Hepsy attended Queens College and Florida State University, graduating with a degree in fashion merchandizing in 1957. While at Queens, Hepsy met Lawrence Clayton Parham of Latta SC through her college roommate. Clayton, a Citadel cadet, and Hepsy fell deeply in love and married in October of 1957. That marriage endured until Clayton's death in 2021, almost 61 years. From that union Hepsy and Clayton brought three children into the world: Catherine Parham Theus (Walt), Benjamin Clayton Parham (Elizabeth), and Walter McLean Parham and were the proud grandparents of 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Hepsy loved her family, her home, her church, her community, music, and flowers. She was a faithful and active member of Latta Presbyterian Church as well as a champion of the mission of the Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina, the Presbyterian Women, and many other church programs and committees. She was a deacon and an elder in the church. In addition, Hepsy was active in her community through multiple activities, the local revitalization committee, Springfest, and Garden Club being just a few. Her petite stature belied a strong will, a deep faith, and an immense capacity to love. For all who felt her presence she will be hugely missed.
A celebration of Hepsy's life will be held on Saturday May 24 in the Chapel at the Columbia Presbyterian Community, located at 700 Davega Drive in Lexington SC. The service will be held at 1:00 pm with a time of gathering to follow. A service of committal will be held at Magnolia Cemetery on a later date.
