Gustav Hopp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Matz Mt. Prospect Funeral Chapel, Inc. on Mar. 2, 2026.
Gustav Hopp, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed

away leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and deep devotion to family and

community.

Born in Germany to Gustav and Frieda Hopp, Gustav was one of eight children in a close-

knit family that shaped the values he carried throughout his life-faith, perseverance, and loyalty.

In 1955, with courage and determination, the Hopp family came to America in search of opportunity

and a brighter future. Through dedication and tireless effort, he built a successful career as a skilled

bricklayer and later served as a respected superintendent, earning the admiration of colleagues for

his craftsmanship and leadership.

Gustav remained proud of his German heritage and was actively involved in the St.

Hubertus Club and the Rheinischer Verein, where he formed lifelong friendships and

helped preserve traditions, he held dear. Music was also close to his heart, and he found

great joy playing in the Fanfaren Corps, celebrating culture through camaraderie and song.

An avid outdoorsman, Gustav loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. Some of his happiest

moments were spent in Wisconsin, surrounded by nature, where he cherished the peaceful

woods, open waters, and the simple beauty of the outdoors. Road trips and travel brought

him great pleasure, but no destination meant more to him than wherever his family

gathered.

Above all else, Gustav was a dedicated family man. He treasured bringing family and

friends together, whether around a dinner table, at a celebration, or simply sharing stories

and laughter. He was a loving and devoted husband to his beloved wife of 64 years,

Ingeborg Hopp. Their enduring marriage was a testament to commitment, partnership, and

unwavering love.

Gustav's life was defined not only by the work of his hands but by the warmth of his heart.

He will be remembered for his strength, his kindness, his steady presence, and the deep

love he shared so generously. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the many

lives he touched.

For any who wish to pay their respects, a visitation will be held from 4:00PM to 8:00PM on Wednesday, March 4th, at Matz Mt Prospect Funeral Chapel, 410 E Rand Rd, Mt Prospect IL, 60056.
