Gustavo Ortiz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Castle Ridge Mortuary - North on Jun. 25, 2024.
Gus Ortiz, a cherished soul known for his selfless nature and magnetic personality, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on January 16, 1962, in Morton, Texas, Gus's life was a testament to the power of kindness, humor, and unwavering dedication to family.
Gus's journey began as the beloved son of Natividad and Olivia Ortiz, both of whom, along with his brother John Ortiz, predeceased him. His life was filled with love, not only from his human family but also from his adored canine companions Aisha, Oreo, and Mari who has reunited with. Gus's heart found its match in his loving wife of 32 years, Esmeralda Ortiz, with whom he built a life full of laughter and mutual devotion. Together, they raised three wonderful sons or whom he was so proud of: Matthew (Gabby), Mario (Jennifer), and Manny (Rebecca) Ortiz. His siblings, Rosa Crespin (Robert), Salvador Ortiz (Chloe), Eliza Rodriguez (Rocky), Danny Ortiz (Roxanne), and Becky Martinez (Jose), will remember him as a source of joy and inspiration, as will his extended family and a multitude of friends.
Gus's professional life was as impactful as his personal one. As a beloved coach and teacher at Brennan High School, he shaped the lives of countless students with his guidance and wisdom. His passion for nurturing young minds was matched only by his dedication to his interests and hobbies. Gus was the quintessential "Grill Master," an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, and the epitome of a true family man. His hardworking hands were always busy-fixing, creating, and bringing joy to those around him.
A man with a loving, kind-hearted, and gentle spirit, Gus was known for his humble, caring, laid-back, and easy-going attitude. His sense of humor was unmatched, often filling rooms with laughter and warmth. Music was a constant in Gus's life; he loved Classic Rock, and it was not uncommon to hear him jamming out to his favorite tunes while tending to the grill. His love for the outdoors was evident in his fondness for fishing and all things water-related. Gus found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, like the family trips to the river and the beauty of Texas's natural rivers and parks.
A man of deep faith, Gus lived his beliefs through his actions, always extending a helping hand and a listening ear to those in need. His creativity shone through in everything he did, and his love for history enriched the stories he shared. Gus was, without a doubt, a beloved friend to many, touching lives with his loving, kind, and funny nature.
Gus Ortiz leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, a beacon of what it means to be a family man, a mentor, and a friend. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid farewell to Gus, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, a life brimming with joy, kindness, and an indomitable spirit that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
His departure from this earth is not an end but a transition to everlasting peace. Gus Ortiz will be profoundly missed, yet his legacy will forever remain, carried on by all who were blessed enough to love him. As we reflect on his journey, we are reminded of the beauty of a life well-lived and the enduring power of a smile, a kind word, and the love of family. Rest in peace, dear Gus, until we meet again.

I had the pleasure of running for coach Ortiz my senior year of high school. Even though our paths only crossed for a short period of time, I was grateful for the time spent together. Coach Ortiz not only brought out the best in his athletes but allowed and encouraged them to be themselves. I have so many memories with this kind man. One I will never forget was on this day. We traveled to Austin for Texas Relays and although the outcome wasn´t what we wanted. Every second of that day was spent full of smiles and laughter. My condolences go out to his friends, family and loved ones. May God rest his soul.
