Guy Corso Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Browning-Forshay Funeral Home - Hawthorne on Feb. 16, 2024.
Guy Del Corso, an eternally giving man and beloved father, experienced one final change of address as he entered into his heavenly home on Thursday, February 15th, 2024.
Born and raised in Paterson, Guy had resided in Hawthorne with the love of his life and his forever "training partner," for the last 40 years. At a young age he developed a love for Disney World, The Rat Pack, The New York Yankees, The Dallas Cowboys and bodybuilding. His love for God, his family, and his dogs were his greatest joys in life.
As a young man, Guy attended Paterson Catholic High School and played for their football team. After graduating he went on to coach the Junior State Colts of Paterson, NJ alongside friends that would last a lifetime. Through his love for weightlifting came his passion for bodybuilding. As a child, Guy was fascinated by comic book characters such as Superman and aspired to look like he was "made of steel." In 1988 he was awarded Mr. New Jersey along with many countless bodybuilding trophies throughout his career. In 1980, he opened his first key club gym in Paterson. After marriage, he then opened the original Guy's Gym and later one in Hawthorne. Being so active in the bodybuilding community, he later became head expeditor of the National Physique Committee Northeast. Soon thereafter, achieving his dream in life of working Joe Weider's Olympia. In 2023, he co promoted his first own bodybuilding show in Rhode Island. He cared deeply for all those he trained and mentored. One Man's dream was able to create lifelong memories and personal connections with each and every person he encountered along the way.
Nothing will be remembered so avidly as Guy's compassion and will to lift up anyone around him. When he entered a room you knew he was there. He was a man everyone knew and could never forget. To his family, Guy was seen as a husband, father, and grandfather. To others he was seen as a mentor, coach, and friend. Guy loved people and people truly loved Guy.
Guy Del Corso was the beloved husband of Linda (nee Maietta) Del Corso of Hawthorne. Loving father of Crystal Balvin and her husband Thomas of Pine Brook; Leeza Del Corso and Gianfranco Verta of Hawthorne; and his dogs Iggy, Oscar, and Buster. Dear Pop Pop of Dylan, Charlotte, and Jameson. He will be eternally loved, terribly missed, and forever remembered by all those who knew him.
Cremation will be private. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday, February 23, 2024, meeting at St. Anthony's R.C.Church, 276 Diamond Bridge Avenue, Hawthorne.

My father knew Guy for many years as part of the body building community, I was first introduced to him in high school when I began lifting for softball- he always called me speedy. Fast forward to being 20 and entering Guys Gym for the first time in years and really being interested in lifting. Guy was my first trainer, and always wrote in my book from his little desk mid gym, something inspirational. I still have those notebooks and will never forget the impression he had on a young girl first entering the gym- not knowing anything. He was humble, accepting, and nonjudgmental, and only wanted to encourage others to put their fears aside and use the gym to create a healthier mind and body. His lessons have stayed with me for over two decades since I met him, and I appreciate the time I had to get to know him and the lasting impression he left on me. We will lift in your honor Guy! Thank you for being you and inspiring so many people.

Thoughts and prayers are with your family. Thanks for the good memories many years ago, hitting the heavy iron in your mom's garage and then the Hawthorne Gyms. Made me stronger than I ever thought I could be, and had some great insperational talks and memories in gym.
